Ecolab is recruiting for a Lead Chemical Engineer of the Modeling Center of Excellence that reports directly to the Sr. Director of the Equipment, Modeling and Connected Solutions team and operates within the Research, Development and Engineering group. This position primarily supports the Industrial business unit with expansion expected to all business units of Ecolab, a globally diversified technology/service company, creating a dynamic, challenging, and varied work environment. Challenge yourself to create tools that are used by Ecolab's field sales force and by our customers to drive the democratization of knowledge, process improvements and customer insights.

This position requires strong technical skills: in particular, the ability to quickly grasp industrial processes and chemistries and formulate appropriate modeling solutions using a variety of mathematical techniques. Also required are an ability to communicate and interact with technical and leadership associates across many levels of the organization, a strong ability to coordinate and collaborate with remote resources and teams, and the ability to simplify complex concepts as required both for communication and model implementation.

What You Will Do:
  • Collaborate with project owners, researchers, and the commercial digital solutions team to define requirements for new product offerings. Collaborate with the data science team and software team on AI models.
  • Understand and develop models for the application and performance of Ecolab chemistries and customer assets.
  • Develop subject matter expertise in water treatment unit operations, water chemistry, and treatment chemicals.
  • Coordinate with technical associates located in Naperville IL, Pune and Bengaluru, India, and other global locations to develop new models that align with business needs.
  • Ability to collaborate with groups within research, marketing, software development, and data science to ensure appropriate resourcing and success for projects.
  • Coordinate and communicate issues, concerns, and progress on projects and technical developments to assure consistent alignment between stakeholders and senior management.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering, mathematics, modeling or a related technical field and 6 years of overall experience
  • 2-5 years of experience actively developing engineering-based mathematical models
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects
  • Experience analyzing and working with incomplete information to advance technical solutions and projects
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate with a wide range of functions and levels within the organization
  • No immigration sponsorship available


Preferred requirements:
  • Masters degree or PhD in a relevant technical field
  • Demonstrated ability to apply expertise across a variety of technical problem areas
  • Demonstrated ability to drive initiatives, negotiate approaches and deliverables, and achieve agreed to outcomes
  • Experience developing commercial software products
