The Lead Network Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of dedicated network infrastructures supporting a universitys research mission. This senior-level role requires advanced technical expertise and leadership skills to mentor junior engineers.

Network Design & Maintenance: Design, plan, implement, and maintain complex research network infrastructures using hybrid/cloud methodologies.
Daily Administration: Oversee high-performance networks, including Science DMZ, and perform technical inspections to resolve critical issues.
Technical Leadership: Mentor less-experienced engineers, manage complex infrastructure projects, and provide cross-departmental technical leadership.
Collaboration & Outreach: Engage with researchers, IT peers, and department managers to optimize network services and support the research community.

Compensation:
125K-150K Annually

Required Skills & Experience
- Proficient experience with Data Transfer Notes
Proficiency in network design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
Strong knowledge of network protocols, packets, and layers.
Experience with high-performance computing environments and research network applications (e.g., Slurm, Globus, ESNET Science DMZ).
Familiarity with scripting and coding (Python, Bash, etc.).
Experience with hybrid and cloud methodologies.
Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle complex technical issues.
Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with researchers, IT peers, and department managers.
Project Management: Proven ability to manage complex infrastructure projects and provide technical leadership across departments.
Industry Knowledge: Up-to-date with industry best practices, emerging technology trends, and state-of-the-art IT concepts.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Valid Georgia drivers license and an insurable driving record.
Ability to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to the University as needed, sometimes on short notice.
