Description: Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director. Leads the activities of staff therapists and may maintain a regular schedule on the CT/SIM or treatment machines. Resolution management of treatment set-ups and provides quality control. Verbally communicates with patients, staff therapists, physicians and Director. Monitors workflow. Provides technical support to staff. Assists with monthly scheduling of therapists. Assists physician with daily chart rounds. Operates all radiation therapy equipment, sets-up and treats patients as per physician prescription, maintains patient treatment records, provides instruction to patients, practices radiation safety principles, practices sterile technique and maintains assigned work area. Performs other duties as assigned. Sets a professional standard for staff therapists. Satisfaction of the Lead Radiation Therapist requirements plus the need for the performance of duties, including supervision responsibility required of the position, as determined by the Employer, which includes directing, checking, reviewing, assigning, organizing and coordinating the work of Radiation Therapists and students, and the responsibility for training and reporting on the work performance of those assigned Radiation Therapists and students.

Essential Responsibilities:

Operates all CT/SIM and treatment equipment including linear accelerators and high dose rate after loading machine. Performs morning check and warm-up of CT/SIM and/or accelerators. Operates treatment machines as well as all patient support assemblies as well as Record and Verify system. Treats patients with prescribed mode, energy, dose, and monitor units/treatment time as prescribed by physician. Performs patient set-ups as per physician prescription and according to Department Policies and Procedures. Participates in a team approach to giving radiation treatments. Maintains treatment records, schedules patient treatments and provides patient instructions. Makes patient set-up devices, immobilization devices, and radiation field-shaping blocks. Prepares patient treatment chart. Exhibits standards of professional behavior appropriate to the age-specific needs of each patient. Protects patients, staff, visitors, and self from unnecessary radiation exposure or injury. Prevents transmission of infectious disease through adherence to infection control practices. Maintains good verbal and written communication skills and works collaboratively with all staff members. Exhibits excellent customer service skills. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Basic Qualifications:

Experience

Three (3) years recent and relevant experience required in patient treatment using various radiation therapy equipment; four (4) years preferred. Operate all radiation therapy equipment and planning equipment. Excellent customer service skills Team oriented. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Current BLS Required. Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment

Education

  • High School Diploma/GED. Graduate from an Accredited Radiation Therapy Program. Current CRT/ARRT Certificate and. Graduate from an Accredited Radiation Therapy Program. Current BLS Required. California Fluoroscopy license (required for areas where fluoroscopy is performed by the therapist for patient diagnosing).

License, Certification, Registration

  • Certified Radiologic Technologist - Therapeutic Radiologic Technology Certificate (California)

  • Certified Radiologic Technologist - Fluoroscopy Certificate (California)

  • Basic Life Support
