Responsibilities

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Specialist to join FSU's Student-Athlete Academic Services (SAAS) team, focused on fostering student engagement and academic success. As a Learning Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to meet with students individually to provide support, guidance, and resources tailored to their learning needs. You will play a crucial role in empowering students to achieve their educational goals by facilitating personalized learning experiences and promoting effective study strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Engagement:

• Meet with students on a regular basis to assess their academic strengths, weaknesses, and learning preferences. Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where students feel comfortable expressing their concerns and seeking assistance.

• Individualized Support: Develop personalized learning plans for students based on their unique learning styles, academic goals, and challenges. Provide one-on-one support and guidance to help students improve their study skills, time management, organization, and academic performance.

Resource Provision:

• Identify and recommend appropriate educational resources, tools, and materials to supplement students' learning experiences.

• Collaborate with staff to ensure students have access to relevant academic support services, workshops, and other resources.

Progress Monitoring:

• Monitor students' progress and academic development over time.

• Track and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and strategies implemented to support student learning outcomes.

• Adjust learning plans and approaches as needed to address evolving needs and challenges.

Communication and Collaboration:

• Maintain regular communication with students and advisors to coordinate support efforts and share progress updates.

• Collaborate with colleagues to implement best practices in student support and contribute to a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, counseling, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Previous experience working in education, student support services, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of learning theories, educational psychology, and effective teaching practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using technology for educational purposes.

Anticipated Salary Range

$20 -$25/hour, commensurate with education and experience.
