Job Summary

The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) is currently seeking a Legislative Coordinator to support the work of the Government Relations Division. This position will help advance OCM's policy and budget recommendations, maintain partnerships with local and tribal governments, support program implementation, and assist with constituent and external affair needs.

This position is located in St. Paul and may telework from home two days per week and is expected to be in the office three days per week. The legislative session may require additional days in-office.

A successful incumbent in this position will be able to:
  • Plan and assist with the department's legislative goals and functions, including the development of policy and budget priorities
  • Maintain positive relationships with legislators, legislative and agency staff, and external stakeholders
  • Develop strategic messages and guidance related to legislative priorities and legislative implementation
  • Demonstrate effective project management skills, including schedule coordination
  • Prepare fact sheets, briefing materials, slides, and other internal and external facing materials
  • Identify and monitor legislation impacting functions of OCM
  • Track legislative committee schedules and monitor legislative hearings and floor sessions


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To facilitate proper years of service crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the legislative process, legislative and stakeholder relations, monitoring legislation, and policy development. A bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, law, or other relevant field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
  • Experience with policy analysis, and writing reports, informational materials, and correspondence
  • Ability to manage complex projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Computer skills sufficient to use a variety of online programs and software
  • The ability to celebrate diversity and a strong commitment to a respectful and inclusive work environment
  • Excellent communication and editing skills sufficient to effectively deliver complex information to a variety of audiences orally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in public policy, political science, law, or closely related field
  • Experience with the legislative and budget process for Minnesota executive branch agencies
  • Knowledge of MN cannabis laws and regulations
  • Experience in the cannabis, hemp, or other county, state, or federally regulated industry

Be a part of building the new Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) from the ground up and supporting Minnesota's new cannabis industry.
