The Virginia Department of Health Profession's (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.

The Licensing Specialist provides licensure support for the Board of Medicine by managing the eligibility and licensing activities for applicants for licensure in the following allied health professions: Respiratory Therapy, Polysomnographic Technology, Athletic Trainer, and Genetic Counselor. Identifies and applies established regulations necessary to analyze licensing processes and ensure that all correspondence is properly prepared and disseminated. This position also maintains a high level of customer service and accurately process licensing applications. Staff advisory board meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

- Experience working in an office environment;
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing;
- Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures including skill in word processing data entry (Microsoft WORD preferred);
- Demonstrated ability to independently organize and prioritize work-flow in a fast-paced, customer service oriented environment;
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, pay close attention to detail, and complete assigned tasks within established time-frames;
- Previous experience as an administrative assistant or clerical skills to include file maintenance, answering incoming calls, preparation and handling of confidential documents;
- Demonstrated ability to quickly develop a comprehensive knowledge of legal or technical issues, and apply this information in response to customer contacts, via phone or written correspondence;
- Demonstrated ability to perform quality assurance of processed documents by independently reviewing and organizing documents with extreme accuracy in a Windows-based environment.

Additional Considerations

- Knowledge of State laws and policies.
- Previous experience as a licensing program specialist in a regulatory office environment.
