Job Summary

UT Southwestern is in search of a skilled and experienced Logistics Technician for our Logistics team. As a valued part of the UTSW team, you will be in constant communication with patients, doctors, and nurses throughout the UTSW system, with an emphasis on providing exceptional service to your customers and team.

Please Note: This position is specifically for the Logistics Department and not Food Services. This position will not perform food service job duties as outlined in the job duties below.

The Logistics Technician is responsible for the efficient handling of goods and materials within the supply chain. Their duties include managing inventory, warehousing, and distribution. Specific responsibilities may include:
  • Processing orders and delivery requests
  • Overseeing logistics functions
  • Scanning and accounting for inventory
  • Decontaminate used equipment
  • Coordinating transportation, warehousing, and distribution of goods
The logistics management team is seeking a candidate with previous logistics department experience with a focus in healthcare, academic, and/or research facilities. Someone with solid experience, able to work in a demanding environment, and with great communication skills.

Work Location: Dallas Campus; assist other UTSW locations as needed.

Shift Requirement: 6:00am to 2:30pm with alternating weekends off; must have flexibility in scheduling availability.

Minimum Experience and Education Requirements
  • Requires high school diploma or GED.
  • On-the-Job Training provided.
  • Experience in a commercial food service operation preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to speak and hear, to follow discussions with supervisors and peers.
  • Must be physically able to lift, support, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, unassisted, on an ongoing basis.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, reach, move and/or lift objects unassisted up to 50 pounds in weight on a continuous basis for greater than 80% of shift.
Job Duties
  • Completes and maintains all job performance requirements and standards as outlined by UT Southwestern and Department policies.
  • Provides outstanding Customer Service by following the ICARES Behaviors.
  • Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the logistics department.
  • Responsible for assembling, tracking, and restocking specialized equipment.
  • Delivers and picks up dirty tray carts on each floor according to established policies and procedures.
  • Delivers patient trays in accordance with the 45-minute set standard for Room Service.
  • Participates in breaking down tray line and dish room cleaning as outlined in time and duties.
  • Collects, processes, and disposes, performs proper ware washing.
  • Department Goal of 95 on Press Ganey attained. (79 and below =1, 80-89=2, 90 and above=3).
  • Participates and completes all mandatory UT and Sodexo training. (MyLearning, FOSS, ICARE, Walk the Talk, Food Safety, Physical Safety, TOPS, etc.)
  • Promptly alerts supervisor immediately of any issues with patients, equipment, or food.
  • Follow up to ensure patient issue was resolved to patient satisfaction.
  • Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of food delivery carts and equipment for Room Service.
  • Ensure Cart Cleaning Log is initialed.
  • Alerts management of any issues.
  • Assures patient safety by adhering to the two patient ID methods of verifying the MRN number and the patient's name on the medical ID bracelet.
  • Verbally verifies patient name with patient and alerts nursing of insulin trays, diet office and supervisor on duty if potential issues arise or the information does not correspond.
  • Employees ensure they carry a spectraphone.
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions:
    • Directly interacting with or caring for patients.
    • Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants.
    • Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or
    • Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
  • Work performed in a hospital setting with frequent exposure to patient and medical staff communication.
  • Continuous walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and moving and/or lifting objects unassisted up to 50 pounds in weight.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimum require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.
