Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Must have a valid driver's license.

Duties Description The Office of Property Supports and Emergency Services is a centralized support office whose mission is to provide a standardized team approach to the management of the Physical Plant Maintenance, Capital Services, Safety & Security, Fire Safety, Emergency Maintenance, and Environmental Services. The Maintenance Assistant will perform a variety of semiskilled maintenance, repair, and related activities. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Under the supervision of a skilled trades or supervisory maintenance position the Maintenance Assistant will be expected to perform a variety of semiskilled maintenance, repair and related tasks.
• Perform a variety of semi-skilled jobs assisting a skilled trade person with work involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general maintenance.
• Work independently to perform preventive maintenance of various types of equipment and make small on-site repairs.
• May also perform journey-level activities, under supervision, or after receiving detailed instructions, to learn and perfect their skills. These would include, but are not limited to carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and electrical.
• Operate tools and machines necessary to perform the tasks assigned.
• Operate trucks, snowplows, and power tools in a safe manner.
• Assist in other maintenance areas as needed.
• Requires daily travel within the district.
• May require some travel within NY State to assist other districts with special projects.
