Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the NYS CSEA Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program*; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Possession of a valid New York State driver's license is preferred, but not required, for these positions.

*Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship.

Duties Description The Office of Mental Health is recruiting to fill a Maintenance Assistant, Grade 9, position assigned to the Administrative Support Services Group (ASSG). ASSG supervises and manages OMH's capital planning and construction program and provides direct technical assistance for physical plant operations and maintenance, nutrition, transportation services and safety and security for 22 Psychiatric Centers, 2 Research Institutes, and Cook Chill Production Center located statewide. The incumbent will assist with the day-to-day operations of Central Office Operations Support Services (COOSS), which is responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering such office services functions as space planning and security for OMH Central Office. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provide support at 44 Holland, 150 Broadway, and other locations as required.
• Build/configure office space.
• Respond to deficiencies including broken locks.
• Assess building complaints including temperature, lighting, odor etc.
• Address building complaints such as temperature-concerns, utilizing infrared and monitoring thermometers in concert with a general understanding of the building HVAC system, coordinating with the property manager as necessary.
• Work with supervisor and manager to confirm that design plans (architectural and engineering design drawings and data wiring plans) may be practically implemented, including comment on placement of data and electrical terminal locations, which may involve physically tracing wire, identifying the best path for low voltage wire, and making suggestions.
• Identify potential building improvements for recommendation to supervisor and manager.
• Perform physical tasks such as removal of surplus equipment.
