Specific to this role, the Data Science Manager would be part of meeting with stakeholders (product owners) to ingest product requirements, translate business requirements to specific technical tasks for developers, prototype technical solutions, validate / QA output from developers, create executive level readouts to communicate takeaways and next steps. The Data Science Manager would build domain knowledge through self-education and interactions with the subject matter experts on the product side. The scope of projects would span across all internet connectivity initiatives such as Spectrum Mobile (geo-spatial data) usage, ML models for predicting customers internet issues and upstream plant issues, and optimization of network configuration. In addition, the Data Science Manager would be expected to be hands on for tasks such as building prototype ML models, productionizing an ML pipeline on AWS, unit testing, and monitoring. This will help the manager be intimately familiar with the challenges faced by the developers, anticipate level of effort to meet business requirements, create service agreements with data owners, and prioritization of tasks via Jira.

As a Data Science Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the full-scope of advanced analytic techniques with the objectives of creating causal inferences, predictions, and recommendations for improvements to business processes, and the metrics to monitor those improvements. This position requires a strong command of techniques and algorithms as well as an ability to determine where to invest time, synthesize actionable findings across diverse assignments, and present these findings to an audience with varying levels of background in analytics.

  • Supervise the execution of the analytics life-cycle, leveraging significant experience in leading this type of work in previous roles.
  • Survey varied data sources on both on-premises and AWS in different forms such as relational databases, kafka topics, parquet files, and external sources for analytic relevance.
  • Execute the full-scope of advanced analytic techniques.
  • Contribute to problem formulation, requirements analysis, and planning.
  • Model data management for validation (e.g. holdout, cross-validation).
  • Review of appropriate algorithms and execution.
  • Contribute to accurate interpretation of results - for both causal inferences and predictive effectiveness.
  • Provide appropriate recommendations for action and changes.
  • Analyze findings, suggested actions and changes to a broad audience, and manage follow-ups and execution.
  • Manage high performing team by leading, developing, training and providing effective coaching to attract and foster talent.
  • Task management for sprint and quarterly planning using Gitlab and Jira.
  • Perform other duties as required.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications
  • Experience:
    • 6+ years of Statistical Analysis
    • 3+ years of Business Analysis
    • 3+ years of SQL/R/SAS Programming
    • 2+ years of Internal client relationship management -
    • Experience with R (required) and/or Python (desired) (including relevant packages) in support of advanced analytics
    • Experience with relational databases, including SQL and utilizing data stored in complex schemas
    • Some experience in the telecommunications industry, or two other consumer-based industries
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, operations research or other quantitatively-focus field
  • Skills:
    • In-depth logical and analytic skills
    • Experience and solid theoretical foundation on the modeling process using a variety of algorithms
    • Data profiling, distributions, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing skills
    • Data pre-processing, exploratory data analysis using a variety of techniques
    • Regression and classification using linear models, GLMs, and tree-based methods
    • Interpretation of model results, consideration of causality, treatment of multicollinearity
    • Synthesis and presentation skills
    • Basic understanding of data architecture, data warehouse and data marts
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
    • Ability to holdout for testing, cross-validation
  • Travel Ability:
    • Travel as required

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in computer science, analytics, data science, mathematics, statistics, operations research or another quantitatively-focus field
  • 2+ years of Management or leadership experience
  • Some experience with Spark and Scala, cloud computing in AWS, and spark optimization
  • Background with Cable systems, RF engineering, internet and wireless technology
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and bash scripting
  • Familiarity with the open-source ecosystems surrounding R (CRAN), Python, and Tableau

The pay for this position has a salary range of $98,900.00 to $175,300.00. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
