Description

Vitalant is currently seeking a Logistics Manager to be responsible for managing product movements nationally from collection through to delivery to hospital customers. This position will ensure that products are moved cost effectively and within the time frames required to meet Vitalant and customer expectations. Shipments could include blood products, biotherapy products, sample tubes, supplies, materials, and devices.

This position can be located remotely from a work at home office anywhere in the United States.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides effective leadership to achieve high levels of service and product quality, to manage expenses within budget parameters, and to meet other criteria in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives.
  • Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates performance of assigned personnel. Coaches and develops assigned personnel; identifies and effectively resolved personnel issues.
  • Leads with humility and a willingness to listen and consider suggestions from everyone, regardless of position or status.
  • Develops and maintains standard shipping modes, schedules, and cost for all shipments to ensure service levels at lower costs. This includes the movement of all blood products from collection to the testing labs and manufacturing centers, and to the hospital customers. Drives compliance to standards with internal stakeholders and department leaders.
  • Manages courier performance in collaboration with field managers. Identifies and implements solutions to ensure all courier performance meets the service needs of Vitalant functions and departments.
  • Monitors enterprise shipments for adherence and conformity to established shipping standards. Provides follow up as needed to address discrepancies with field.
  • Works with internal teams to gain buy-in and implement service solutions and cost reduction implementations.
  • Acts as critical SME to support any transportation needs identified by the business.
  • Identifies transportation requirements/capabilities as needed and participates with Supply Chain Management on sourcing and selection.
  • Operates software and other resources designed to support logistics discipline and structure. Utilizes key performance indicators and metrics to support annual cost savings.
  • Participates in QBRs with key vendors/critical suppliers to address service levels and develop strategic partnerships. Transportation modes include air freight, ground freight, internal couriers, and external couriers.
  • Collaborate with logistics analyst to utilize data to identify service and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Assures claims are made for carrier service failures and that all refunds are collected for which Vitalant is entitled.


Requirements

Knowledge/Education

Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent combination of education and experience in related field required.

Strong knowledge and experience with domestic LTL transportation carriers required.

experience with transportation software programs preferred.

Experience

Five years related experience required. To include:

• Three years of distribution or logistics experience working with internal drivers, and 3PL carriers, and on demand shipments domestic.

• Two years supervisory experience.

Previous experience supporting a multi-location environment required.

Experience managing cold-stored, perishable products preferred.
