The Manager of Student Support Services reports to the Director of Student Affairs. This position will develop, review, assess, and make recommendations to maintain quality or improve in areas such as, but not limited to, student retention, student events, registered student organizations, mentoring, student recognition and student advising. This role also requires discretion and diplomacy as the Manager of Student Support Services works with many campus partners and
students to maintain and achieve student success throughout the School of Nursing programs.
The Manager of Student Support Services ensures that students are supported through their entire program experience. Working closely with the Director of Student Affairs, this role will create and maintain a culture of care and support amongst Student Services team. The incumbent will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The incumbent will be a point of contact for student grievances and will focus on providing excellent service in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Director of Student Affairs and Program Directors by addressing and, if necessary, escalating issues in a timely and effective manner.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Higher Education Administration or related area.
- Demonstrated experience regarding student support and financial aid policies, procedures & practices.
- PC skills in Microsoft Office, Internet applications and database software.
- Experience with Student Information Systems. Demonstrated ability to think both strategically and tactically to provide leadership to achieve the vision of the school of nursing.
- Demonstrated professional ability to reprioritize workload and perform in a highly visible and high-stakes dynamic environment, for the growth and sustainability of academic programs for the School of Nursing.
- Demonstrated independent decision making skills to work with ambiguities where clear guidelines are not present.
- Demonstrated skills to identify issues, provide recommendations referrals, and seek resources to develop solutions.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and diplomatically with a diverse group of people including faculty, staff and students; respond to questions and concerns; and comprehend the specialized needs of students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Extensive analytical skills to interpret student data to support recommendations.
- Ability to obtain, correlate and develop statistical reports from a variety of sources; skills to retrieve and assemble information for preparation.
- Supervisory, communication and organization skills to manage and train other staff members and student workers in a team-oriented workplace.
- Demonstrated ability to develop programmatic partnerships with a variety of academic and administrative departments, student organizations, and community groups throughout the Sacramento and Davis campuses.
- Ability to work with and maintain confidentially of student information and materials.
- Advanced computer skills to select and utilize various software programs such as word-processing, spreadsheets, customer relationship management and database management programs.
- Experience using UC Davis systems: Banner, Slate preferred.
- Experience with Salesforce preferred.
- Ability to function well and with a great deal of flexibility in a fast-paced working environment; strong initiative and work cooperatively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior management experience in customer service or related experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience to interpret and advise effectively on policies, procedures and requirements regarding UC Davis graduate education and the NSHL program, UC Davis Office of Graduate Studies, Graduate Council, Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid Office and the University of California.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in student affairs, specifically in the implementation and management of Nursing Science and Health Care Leadership graduate degree programs and student success resources.
- Knowledge and commitment to UC Affirmative Action policies and procedures, specifically related to recruitment & retention of graduate students from traditionally under-represented groups.
