Tesla's world-class Cell Manufacturing Engineering team is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineering Technician. This role will be involved in the development, commissioning and ramping of high-speed automated equipment, while working in a cross-functional team to test, validate, and roll-out process and product design changes.
The battery cell is a critical component in Tesla vehicles and storage systems. This role will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to our products. Responsibilities
  • Support development, commissioning, and ramp of custom high speedautomated manufacturing equipment. Perform equipment setup, operation, adjustments, and necessarymaintenance tasks to meet safety, quality, and efficiency standards forequipment development and commissioning stages
  • Work collaboratively as the manufacturing equipment support toensure production lines run in a safe, efficient manner producing high qualityparts. Work closely with ManufacturingEngineers and suppliers to identify inline issues, potential solutions andengineering improvements as they arise during development and commissioning
  • Debug and optimize automated processes to reduce cycle times andmaximize OEE. Troubleshoot and recoverprocesses using PLC, HMI, or tool management software, and implement changes/improvements. Provide hands-on support to operations andmaintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve extended downtime situations. Identify equipment critical spare parts andensure sufficient coverage to prevent extended downtime situations. Build operating procedures, trainingmaterial, maintenance routines, and related documentation for equipment lifecycle management
  • Assemble and test manufactured goods for dedicated tooling and orprocesses
  • Conduct analytical tests, measure, record and interpret data usingdefined tools and software
  • Support safety and ergonomic improvements to production equipmentwhich meets or exceeds regulations or best practices. Participate in supplier/internal equipment FAT and SAT
  • Support FMEA / risk assessment activities to ensure design andmanufacturing issues are identified and risks mitigated


Requirements
  • 3+ years of hands-on operational and technical experience withmanufacturing equipment and knowledge of practices of root cause analysis andresolution pathways in a dynamic high-volume environment
  • Metal working, band saws, grinders, mill, lathe and suchfabrication skills, knowledge of hand and power tools, pneumatic equipment
  • Experience in low voltage systems, knowledge of electrical hazardsincluding precautionary measures around spinning machinery. Ability to usebasic electrical tools such as digital multi-meter, meg-ohm tester,thermocouple meters. Basic wiringknowledge, ability to connect sensors, power supplies, and data acquisition totest platforms
  • Ability and passion to perform hands-on tasks andinspections. Possess good manualdexterity and visual acuity to perform delicate assembly and disassemblytasks. Ability to lift and sort parts ofup to 20 pounds as needed
  • Ability to use technological tools and business systemapplications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data. Excellent attention to detail, organization,structured thinking and problem-solving abilities following a data drivenapproach, statistical software a plus
  • Knowledge, understanding and ramping equipment of Battery Celltechnology a plus
  • Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
