Test Engineer, In House Cell Engineering

Our team test and qualify Tesla's large-format in-house cells for electrochemical performance and product reliability. We work with Cell Manufacturing team and other cross functional teams to deepen our understanding of our battery cells and to improve product performance. We develop cycle life test plans to evaluate battery performance over time and monitor capacity fade and impedance growth, set up new fixtures and execute the plan that enables battery cell performance.


Responsibilities

• We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate professionals to work on disruptive cutting-edge battery electrode technology that enables Tesla electric vehicles and energy storage systems to be more efficient and reliable
• In this role, you will execute and maintain of lithium-ion cell tests using cell cycling equipment, specialized temperature control fixtures and circulators
• This role will also write test plans, propose design of experiments, summarize results in test reports, and ensure the highest possible data integrity from the lab
• It is essential to able to plan, prioritize, and communicate status of lab testing activities to hit project deadlines
• Be a member of a cross functional product development team to help determine the ideal cell design for Tesla products

Requirements

• Degree or relevant experience in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• Degree in related field and research and development experience preferred
• Self-motivated and a self-starter with hands-on skills
• Ability to develop new test concepts and methods, and execute independently
• Some knowledge of electrochemical test equipment used in battery cell testing or equivalent
• Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset
• Understanding of lithium-ion cell safety and its risks
• Some coding experience required (i.e. MATLAB, Python, and/or similar data analysis tool)
