Teslais seeking a highly motivated Equipment Engineer to contribute to thedevelopment and improvement of new automation equipment and assembly lines for ourEnergy products manufacturing operations. A manufacturing equipment engineer inthe production engineering team will be a part of operating, sustaining, andimproving some of the most automated manufacturing equipment in the world. Thebest candidate for the position has a high aptitude to learn new skillsets inthe position. The expectation is that engineers will start with strengths in agiven field (AUTOCAD, robotics, PLC Programming, vision, Python, HMI scripting,etc) and then learn all other areas from those who work with them. This rolerequires capability across the board to sustain all parts of the automatedequipment.


Responsibilities
  • Sustain 24 by 7 production operations through responding toand resolving breakdowns quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime
  • Active leader of a cross functional TPM team while takingon improvement projects to assist in improving thefactory. Diagnoses equipment failures, finds root cause and improveOverall Equipment Effectiveness. Lead equipment upgrades with afocus on serviceability, reliability and process capability
  • Develop and improve equipment validation proceduresincluding calibration and qualification
  • Become Expert Level Trainer on all machines in assignedarea and be responsible for the level of knowledge of Shifttechnicians. Provide hands-on support to maintenance team totroubleshoot and resolve extended downtime situations
  • Takes initiative to create, implement and improvePreventative and Predictive Maintenance documents and schedules, under thedirection of the Maintenance Planner
  • Program ladder logic and structured text on multiple PLCcontroller platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens). Program and teachindustrial 6-axis robots (Fanuc) Sequence complex, multi-station machinery formaterial pick-and-place, dispense, fastening, welding and conveyanceapplications
  • Participate in spare part analysis and inventorydevelopment, cost reduction, improvement working with Spares Department to RMAfaulty components and communicate needs to the vendor


Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, IndustrialEngineering, Mechatronic, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting andconfiguration. Good overall computer skills with demonstratedability in either Beckhoff or Siemens, programming languages, preferred
  • Experience commissioning and improvingEquipment. Have a demonstrated track record of Overall EquipmentEffectiveness (OEE) improvement, Preventative and Predictive Maintenanceactivities, preferred
  • Robotics maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization &teaching, preferred
  • 3+ years in a highly automated, high volume manufacturingfacility, good understanding of Computerized Maintenance Management System(CMMS), Safety, Ergonomics, Change Point Management, Spare Parts Management, isa plus
  • Strong problem solving skills and an aptitude for learningsystems quickly. Able to utilize structured problem solvingtechniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines(8D). Able to resolve high level performance issues into addressableactions, preferred
  • Able to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings andelectrical schematics, experience developing and improving HMI's, FanucRobotics / Ignition Experience, preferred
  • Strong ability to work and communicate effectively withteam and peers within a manufacturing and engineeringorganization. This includes excellent communication skills: writtenand verbal
  • Creative capacity for developing new ways to do thingsbetter, cheaper, faster in alignment with the Tesla approach to revolutionaryproduct development, is a plus
  • Passion for making fantastic new products and using testingas a means to enable an engineering organization to achieve outstandingquality, reliability and excellence. Willing to perform shift work(nights) and overtime as required
