A Process Engineer will implement,develop, and optimize production methodologies in the Energy productsmanufacturing operations of Tesla. This engineer will be responsible foroptimizing product flow though the factory though process optimization that mayinclude tool /fixture selection, line layouts, ergonomic study, materialpresentation, and other relevant factors. They will interface with design,test, and quality engineering to solve problems, improve manufacturability, andimplement continual improvement. They will sustain products with cost reductionand yield improvements. In addition, the process engineer will work withquality to compile and evaluate data to determine appropriate limits andvariables for process or material specifications.


Responsibilities
  • Develop expertise in manufacturingprocesses. Understand process capabilities through critical data analysisand in depth understanding of the product. Develop and modify linelayouts, including material flow, waste reduction, and ergonomics, utilizingLean Manufacturing best practices
  • Analyze and optimize productionprocesses to ensure safety while maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness(OEE) in cost effective means while driving to achieve world-class qualitylevels. Champion continuous improvement projects (CIP) to maximizeyield, capacity, and capability
  • Responsible for diagnosing issuesfound during the part manufacturing process and drive corrective action back tosource, resulting in root cause identification andelimination. Utilize structured problem solving techniques such asDMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) and Eight Disciplines (8D)
  • Develop robust and clear datacollection, visualization, and analysis tools. Enable data drivenoperational and financial decisions through predictive insights into tool andprocess performance, including integration of factory data systems and use ofsoftware such as MySQL, Python, R, JMP, Minitab, Tableau and Ignition
  • Perform supporting activities forengineering and manufacturing including 5S and Lean manufacturing activities,material handling improvements, production line configuration, and safetyprocedures.
  • Monitor and reduce process variationusing techniques such as Statistical Process Control (SPC) and MeasurementSystems Analysis (MSA). Monitor and audit manufacturing processes toensure product specifications and standards are achieved. Participatein the development and maintenance of FMEAs and ControlPlans. Analyze, develop, process, and implement Engineering ChangeOrders.
  • Create and maintain ManufacturingInstructions, routings, and associated processes. Manage activities forprocess sustaining technicians to support day to day coverage of productionline, including developing and documenting appropriate rework procedures.
  • Support 24 by 7 production operations


Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in ElectricalEngineering or other applicable degree, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of Statistical ProcessControl and its application, preferred
  • 4+ years in a high volume, highlyautomated manufacturing facility developing and improving processes, is a plus
  • Experience developing and improvingProcess. Have a demonstrated track record of Overall EquipmentEffectiveness improvement activities, preferred
  • Strong problem solving skills and anaptitude for learning systems quickly. Able to utilize structuredproblem solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or EightDisciplines (8D). Able to resolve high level performance issues intoaddressable actions, preferred
  • Experience in the use of a broadvariety of test, control and data acquisition equipment and software ispreferred
  • Strong ability to work and communicateeffectively with team and peers within a manufacturing and engineeringorganization. This includes excellent communication skills: written and verbal,is a plus
  • Creative capacity for developing newways to do things better, cheaper, faster in alignment with the Tesla approachto revolutionary product development
  • Passionfor making fantastic new products and using testing as a means to enable anengineering organization to achieve outstanding quality, reliability andexcellence, preferred
