What You Will Do

The First Line Manager (FLM) is the primary point of contact for all logistics, coordination and management oversight of a team of employees within a business services, customer-centric environment. Reporting directly to the New Employee Training (NET) & Workforce Development (WMS-1) Group Leader within the Weapons Mission Services (WMS) Division, the chosen candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) vision is executed with precision and quality by providing day-to-day direction and leadership to team members and all affected ALDWP managers and staff. WMS is seeking two highly motivated and experienced individuals to serve as FLM in one of the following disciplines:

  • NET Onboarding & Orientation
  • Project/Training Facility Support
  • Continuing Education/Workforce Development

These individuals must be uniquely skilled to oversee the successful development and implementation of many different types of operational and field execution training programs. Intimate familiarity with the use of learning management systems to assign and track training for large target audiences of people is a must, as well as the desire and commitment to establish and motivate a disciplined team of training developers, coordinators, Operations Support Specialists and technical trainers to execute the work.

The Manufacturing Support Manager 3 will report directly to the WMS-1 Group Leader. The selected candidates will provide direct supervision of the selected team of individuals, lead them to complete mission critical training milestones and deliverables, and set the standards and example for utmost professional behavior and operational effectiveness.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Planning, organizing, and defining tactical objectives for successful training/program outcomes.
  • Monitoring scope and schedule and establishing day-to-day protocol for planned activities.
  • Delivering quality training products and/or services; enforcing adherence to performance standards; achieving the balance between the need to meet both productivity goals and quality standards.
  • Ensuring administrative and operating procedures are current, understood, and adhered to.
  • Working with operational staff within the directorate to execute training events safely, securely, with quality, and in compliance with nuclear facility requirements.
  • Performing direct daily oversight of work, workers, projects, facility support and/in the training environment.
  • Ensuring impeccable communications with line management reporting on work status, deliverables, and commitments.
  • Directing and overseeing work performed by employees including "on the floor" supervision of tasks/activities in various locations across the directorate.
  • Implementing efficient time management skills and the ability to deal effectively with changing priorities and conflicting demands.
  • Motivating employees to work as a team in accomplishing objectives, including mentoring and inspiring peers.



What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Leadership: Experience managing multidisciplinary teams of technicians and/or professional staff in both operational and virtual environments. Advanced leadership skills in supervising, resolving conflicts, mentoring, team building, motivating employees, and developing personnel such as students and/or early career training staff. Proven ability to match skillsets of workers to the task at hand.

Knowledge and Expertise: Advanced experience in developing and implementing training-related scope and/or coordinating training facility activities. Experience with planning for and managing strategic and tactical execution of work; tracking and reporting progress, specifically in operational training execution to meet both short and long term goals. Expertise in measuring progress and reporting status on metrics associated with assigned scope area.

Accountability: Experience working with confidential, proprietary, or sensitive information, including controlled unclassified information. History of dependable, reliable performance with a high level of integrity at all times. Proven ability to show good judgement when managing and overseeing the work of a team.

Communication: Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, and publications; effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.

Customer Service: Advanced experience in interacting with a wide variety of personnel with the ability to make sound decisions in high-stress situations. Proven experience executing training programs in a fast-paced, moderate/high-hazard environment with the ability to shift and adjust priorities quickly and accurately, as needed.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience performing work in a manufacturing and/or nuclear environment and executing work in compliance with facility requirements, conduct of operations, conduct of engineering, and conduct of maintenance standards.
  • Experience with identifying Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and developing reliable methods for gathering data and reporting metrics.
  • Knowledgeable of Integrated Work Management (IWM) and integrated safety and security management (ISSM) procedures.
  • Knowledgeable of document control processes and records management protocol.
  • DOE Q Clearance and HRP Certification highly desirable.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
