Insight Global is hiring a Market Risk Manager to be at the helm of evaluating, monitoring, and analyzing market risks for our large renewable energy clients wind and solar energy portfolios. This role is pivotal in leveraging expertise in market trend analysis, risk assessment, and the development of risk management strategies, particularly within the North American power market context.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee adherence to the Company Risk Policy, reporting exceptions, identifying new risks, and suggesting policy enhancements.
Develop advanced financial models for complex transactions across various power markets such as MISO, SPP, PJM, NEISO, NYISO, CAISO, and ERCOT.
Manage collateral and margin positions with trading partners and ISOs.
Analyze and manage risks related to merchant wind, solar, and storage resources, especially concerning Power Purchase Agreements.
Oversee basis risk and ensure compliance with risk limits for financial instruments in energy markets, ensuring accurate trade capture and reporting.
Keep abreast of market developments, including price volatility, market rule changes, and supply-demand shifts.
Collaborate with the RCC to monitor market factors and provide management with market insights.
Evaluate the risk profile of the power portfolio, including derivatives, futures, and physical assets.
Aid in the development and upkeep of Revenue at Risk models, perform stress tests, and conduct attribution analysis.
Formulate and support capacity trading strategies and establish metrics to gauge the efficacy of risk strategies and PPAs.
Deliver quantitative analyses and insights to the Front Office and senior management.
Provide analytical support for ad-hoc requests like basis risk analysis and generation optimization.
Assess and endorse valuation models from the Front Office and Finance teams.
Model power pricing for developers based on historical data, environmental factors, and policy trends.
Review transactions and advise on risk mitigation measures.
Support analytics for scenario planning, growth budgeting, and the renewables business plan.
Create and maintain Power Curve pricing and review PPAs for billing mechanics and risk exposures.
Execute complex queries in energy trading systems for compliance filings and internal stakeholder inquiries.
Coordinate REC Transfer and Sales Agreements and maintain REC inventory.
Identify hedging opportunities and monitor markets for long/mid-term hedge prospects.
Assist in annual generation and market revenue budget preparation.
Compile assumptions and pricing for asset recoverability assessments.
Develop tools and processes for Mark to Market reporting.
Educate and mentor team members and recommend IT enhancements to support the market risk model.

Required Skills & Experience

Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field.
6-8 years of varied and complex experience in the related field.
Fundamental knowledge of energy trading and risk management.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerQuery, or Tableau.
Proven ability to manage large datasets and provide distilled insights for management.
Strong data modeling skills, both quantitative and qualitative.
Advanced analytical and mathematical abilities, including numerical and algorithmic methods.
Knowledge of financial derivatives and their application in risk management.
Familiarity with ISO/RTO operations, energy market products, and RTO data interfaces.
Understanding of emissions and REC products and experience in leading significant projects.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

A graduate degree in finance, business, accounting, or a related field.
Professional designations like FRM, ERM, or CPA are advantageous.
Working knowledge of GAAP and experience with various trading platforms and financial software.
Proficiency in programming languages such as VBA, SQL, Python, and advanced query writing skills.
Experience with power settlements, invoicing with ISO/RTOs, and complex power purchase agreements.
