The Marketing Specialist supports the development and implementation of marketing strategies and tactics to attract students to programs at the College of Continuing and Professional Studies ( CCAPS ) and to online programs offered elsewhere at the University of Minnesota (UMN) system through a partnership with the University's Office of Distributed Learning (ODL). The Marketing Specialist is a member of the CCAPS Marketing and Enrollment Management team and reports to the Marketing Manager for Undergraduate and Graduate Education. This is a remote position with occasional requirements to be on campus for meetings or events.

This position offers a flexible work arrangement as a hybrid position and has the unique opportunity to help shape and be responsible for the student experience.

The salary range for the position is $61,000 - $65,000.

DUTIES:

Marketing Strategy 25%
  • Assists the marketing manager with annual marketing plan development for all program areas.
  • Determines and provides feedback on appropriate channels to fulfill a marketing need or address the identified marketing challenge.
  • Collaboratively communicates and consults with programs on their marketing initiatives and plans.
  • Applies marketing expertise to projects to ensure they align with best practices.
  • Provides strategic marketing direction to ensure content, design, and development of campaign initiatives meet program needs and goals.
  • Identifies and resolves barriers to marketing plan objectives.
  • Performs secondary market research for assigned University programs using available labor market analysis tools and other resources, and generally, maintains a strong working knowledge of the higher education market. Based on this knowledge and research, contributes to the strategic direction of existing and new programs to meet market needs.
Marketing Campaign Coordination 65%
  • Initiates marketing campaigns and projects internally and/or with CCAPS' marketing agency by following established request procedures.
  • Coordinates marketing projects to ensure they are on target and on budget, working collaboratively with ODL, CCAPS staff, and agency resources.
  • Is the main point of contact for vendors for details regarding ads, specs, materials, creative, dates, deadlines, etc.
  • Works with the marketing agency to set-up and manage campaign landing pages, ensuring they are facilitating campaign objectives and kept up-to-date. Identifies opportunities for A/B testing on the landing pages and work with the marketing agency to implement tests and report results.
  • Leads all aspects of creation of copy and design for creative, and facilitates approvals from CCAPS program staff and other partners prior to launch. Receive approval from the Marketing Manager as necessary.
  • Reviews and approves invoices from vendors for marketing campaigns, ensuring they are paid on time and coded to appropriate accounts. Track expenses and prepare budget reports.
  • Identifies marketing campaign metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), monitor campaign performance, and prepare reports to present to the Marketing Manager, partners and collaborators.
  • Creates project briefs, submits requests, and attends/facilitates team kickoff meetings.
  • Communicates project progress with Marketing Manager and MEMs teammates; collects feedback and approvals from program staff.


Content Management and Development 10%
  • Makes updates to content on current website pages
  • Reviews and edit content of stories and blog posts
  • Writes emails or other promotional content


Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree and at least two years of experience related to this position, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least six years
  • Experience editing and writing, particularly for the web
  • Experience working in a marketing environment
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage many diverse projects simultaneously and meet critical due dates.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and skill in working with diverse audiences
Preferred
  • Experience working in marketing or communications in the higher education industry
  • Experience with Google's suite of products (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Analytics, Google+)
  • Experience using higher education and labor market research tools such as Lightcast Analyst, the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), or Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
