Pay Range

$6,692.90 - $7,650.50 Monthly

Job Description

We have an opening for a Materials and Manufacturing Engineer Academic Graduate Appointee. You will work under the guidance of staff members to execute on experiments and activities in the areas of materials formulation, materials processing, materials characterization, and materials and manufacturing process development for projects that support LLNL programs. This position is in the Materials Engineering Division (MED), within the Engineering Directorate.

In this role you will
  • Work under general guidance of staff materials engineers, in areas such as materials and manufacturing process development, materials processing, and materials characterization, to resolve process problems in the areas of functional materials and advanced manufacturing.
  • Conduct, analyze, and present data from experiments to develop and improve the understanding of materials.
  • Determine solutions to technical problems involving the processing and utilization of materials by reviewing scientific and technical literature and experimental techniques.
  • Disseminate results, including methods developed, and keep current on materials and manufacturing processes. development/characterization methods.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and technicians to accomplish research goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in Materials Science and Engineering demonstrated by coursework, training, and/or work experience.
  • Experience conducting experiments related to the processing and characterization of materials.
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, document analyses and prepare, present and explain technical information and publications.
  • Strong initiative, interpersonal skills, creativity, and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

Desired Qualification
  • Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with several materials processing techniques.

Security Clearance

This position requires either no security clearance, or a Department of Energy (DOE) L-level or Q-level clearance depending on theparticular assignment.

If you are selected and a security clearance is required, wewillinitiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. L and Q-level clearances require U.S. citizenship.
