Mechanic Helper

"Reports to: Warehouse Supervisor (Maintenance) Duty Days: 8 Hour/261 Days Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt Pay Grade: A04

Qualifications:

College hours, high school diploma or GED Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Mechanical experience (or heavy-duty tire work) in vehicle repair and/or other related experience Able to understand and execute verbal and written orders and to work productively without continual supervision Formal training in vehicle repair (preferred)

Primary Purpose:

Capable of helping make mechanical repairs to the district's Maintenance Department fleet. Help provide for a safe and reliable vehicle for the transport of employees of Katy ISD.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Able to inspect and replace the fleet's tires and tubes. Mount and balance heavy (truck and bus) and light (auto) duty tires. Maintain records concerning tire use (preventative maintenance). Maintain a fleet tire inventory for emergency use. Able to perform general lubrication, change filters, etc. Operate fuel pumps. Wash vehicles. Clean shop area. Assist mechanic. Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

Wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, drills, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, floor cleaner, torque wrench, jacks and lift equipment.

Working Conditions:

Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Exposed to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuel.
