Responsibilities
The successful candidate will join a team to safely, effectively, and efficiently operate and maintain mechanical systems/equipment in support of wind tunnels at NASA LaRC. Shall follow safety policies and procedures and perform all work according to existing policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship in performing the duties. Working knowledge of safety practices common to industry including FOD control and LOTO (OSHA Lockout/Tagout program) is an added advantage. Experience in operating and maintaining rotating machinery, hydraulic and pneumatic system, pumps, valves and cooling water systems is desirable. Other equipment operated on includes but is not limited to, industrial forklifts, man-lifts and cranes. Will perform preventive maintenance on, inspection of, and operate equipment per documented procedures. Must be able to read relevant technical drawings and specifications. Relevant military training or aviation maintenance training is a plus.
U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. Two (2) years of college with courses in engineering, mathematics or science, and four (4) years relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of relevant education/experience for a total of six (6) years of experience.
Essential Functions
Work Environment
Office Environment (20%). Test/Industrial Environment - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, high energy sources, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities.(75%)
Travel between facilities and during test operations may be required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment and chemical operations (5%)
Physical Requirements
Must have sufficient mobility to enter into confined spaces, crawl into or onto various assemblies while maintaining a clear vision of safety is required. Potential exposure to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, propellants and the like. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35lbs( 75%).
Equipment and Machines
Facility operations display/keyboards/mechanical/electrical control/HMI, standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (30%) Operate appropriate equipment; devices, fabricates and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies for products, such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments. Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization and quality control.

Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (10%)

U.S. Citizenship required. A valid driver's license is required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
