JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Media Specialist plans, designs, develops, and creates media for faculty and TLC staff, primarily videos and animations used for Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) programming and academic courses. This position collaborates with advising faculty and provides input on the use of media hardware and software in teaching and learning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plans, designs, develops, and creates content and creative pieces to meet the needs of UTHSC faculty and TLC staff.
  2. Identifies target audiences and, with input, determines the best ways to present information to UTHSC audiences; generates creative and original ideas to produce content.
  3. Assures material is compliant with UTHSC marketing and communication guidelines, as well as fair use, copyright, and accessibility requirements.


4. Provides hands-on support to faculty in the creation and deployment of digital media including animations, videos, pod- and vodcasts.

  1. Maintains, updates, and configures TLC media facilities and other technologies.
  2. Collaborates with other university departments such as Communication and Marketing and ITS to promote effective use of UTHSC media resources.
  3. Serves as a resource for faculty and TLC staff to plan, design, develop, produce, and deliver media, including online videos, animations, tutorials, and other programming in support of its mission.
  4. Analyzes, proposes, and implements upgrades and additions to keep facilities current.
  5. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Arts, Communications, Digital Media, Arts and Sciences, Instructional Design, or related field of study. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED).

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of digital media experience; OR Master's Degree in lieu of experience; OR a combination of relevant education and experience to equal six (6) years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and application of media production, delivery, theories, technologies, principles, concepts, and methodologies
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations in relation to accessibility and copyright.
  • Knowledge of website design and development, including WordPress and WordPress add-ons
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to accurately identify technical issues and resolve or redirect to appropriate support resources.
  • Ability to work closely with various members of the college community in concept and project development to meet their needs.
  • Ability to plan and schedule complex productions, organize production teams, and meet deadlines.


WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
