Job Description

General Purpose

Under limited supervision, assists providers and RN's in administering specific procedures with patients in performing clerical tasks in various clinic or office situations. Duties may vary depending upon area worked.

Essential Duties
  • Assists patients to exam/procedure room and may prepare patient for exam and/or assist provider with exam, procedure or treatment.
  • Performs clinical tasks independently including, but not limited to, vision testing, urine drug screens, fit testing, and lab draws, and vaccinations.
  • Obtains blood draws and processes appropriately for transport to Lab. May obtain vital signs.
  • Collects specimens for urinalysis and/or drug testing according to DOT standard guidelines.
  • Performs respiratory fit testing for Team Members
  • Assists in flu vaccine clinics
  • Cleans and maintains equipment and environment. Keeps rooms stocked appropriately and monitors stock logs. Prepares rooms for patient exams.
  • Assists clerical staff with filing, copying, chart preparation, answering phones, scheduling or calling lab/x-ray for reports and managing emails.
  • Acts as a preceptor for new Medical Assistant associates.
  • Maintains professional standards by participating in continuing education, inservices, staff meetings and task force committees.
  • Performs administrative/clerical duties to facilitate clinic schedules and data entry
  • Continuously involved in the process of quality improvement


Job Requirements

Work Experience

6 months experience as Medical Assistant Ambulatory/outpatient MA experience preferred

Education

High school diploma, GED or successful completion of 12 grades combined with continued enrollment in early college program Completion of accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively and appropriately communicate with patients, physicians and other hospital associates.
