GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the direct supervision of the Practice Manager, the lead medical assistant oversees the daily coordination and assignment of the Pediatric Neurology and Herscot Center. The Lead Medical Assistant will be expected to have a global view of the daily and weekly clinical schedules, exam room availability, maintenance of exam rooms and equipment and team staffing levels. S/He is responsible for ensuring efficient patient flow through the office while maintaining the highest level of patient safety and care, patient satisfaction, and clinician satisfaction.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs all duties that are the responsibility of a Medical Assistant I/II. Inclusive of performing Phlebotomy.
• Functions as the resource person for the medical assistants, front desk staff, support staff and clinicians when questions and/or problems arise with patient and clinic flow.
• Reviews provider schedules daily and weekly to plan staffing level needs and formulates solutions for potential problems.
• Assesses daily staffing needs for medical assistants. In the event of a sick call, vacation, or the need to allocate staff to other areas of Neurology, implements plan to reallocate staff as needed. Ensures there is adequate medical assistant coverage. (Mon-Fri 8:00am - 5:00pm).
• Coordinates with the Practice Manager/project & Supervisor, requests for planned absences, lunches, and vacations. Ensures coverage of all areas of medical assistant responsibilities.
• Monitors Patient Tracking to maintain efficient patient flow. Resolves phlebotomy, obtaining an EKG, and patient rooming delays.
• Orders supplies for clinic to ensure appropriate stocking of all examination rooms, areas with supplies and all materials necessary for efficient patient care.
• Ensures cleanliness of exam rooms and equipment located in these areas.
• Reports any issues with equipment to Biomedical Engineering and the Practice Manager.
• Assists with the recruiting, interviewing of medical assistants.
• Assists with competency checks and evaluations for Neurology Medical Assistants.
• Performs and queues up prescriptions for providers in clinical setting in EPIC.
• Orients new staff to the outpatient clinics, processes, and clinical protocols appropriate to the position.
• Attends Pediatric Neurology staff meetings and other larger Neurology Medical Assistant Team meetings and other meeting as required.
• Participates in Quality Improvement projects such as exam room standardization, patient flow, and other QA projects for the practice as needed.
• Identifies and communicates to the Practice's leadership issues of process creating inefficiencies within the operation. Assists in problem resolution with the Neurology Leadership team and support staff.
• Performs all other duties or special projects as assigned by the Leadership team.

Qualifications
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
• Must be a Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant preferred.
• Current Basic CPR certification required.
• BLS Certification
• Phlebotomy Certification required.
EDUCATION:
• Minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
