Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts.

The Office of Licensure and Certification is seeking a healthcare professional with experience in a nursing home setting, to supervise inspectors to ensure inspections/surveys of health care facilities (nursing homes and intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities) are performed in accordance with state and/or federal regulations.

May conduct inspections and investigations directly, as needed. Duties include: supervising inspections/surveys and complaint investigation activities; preparing inspectors' work schedules; reviewing inspection/survey reports; addressing regulations and survey process questions for provider applicants; verifying applications meet regulatory requirements; managing databases to reflect changes in licensed and certified health care facilities; and providing technical assistance to providers.

Minimum Qualifications

*Applicants must have the ability to communicate orally and in writing in an articulate and legally defensible manner.
*Knowledge of quality-of-care issues, long-term care operations, and the management and delivery of long-term care systems.
*Ability to interpret and consistently apply laws and regulations and understand the consequences of violations.
*Management skills in planning, analysis, scheduling, team building, and providing customer service.
*Ability to supervise a diverse workforce, which may be dispersed throughout the state in home-based offices.
*General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
*If the applicant does not currently have certification for the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT), certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
*Travel is required averaging up to 2 days monthly.

Additional Considerations

* Experienced in health care/long-term care.
*Licensed registered nurse/registered dietitian.
*Prior Medical Facilities Inspector (MFI) experience.
