JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Middle School Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS: Meets NH certification requirement of School Counselor, Bachelor's Degree or higher in school counseling. Experience working with adolescents in a school setting is preferred. The ability and working knowledge to interpret academic, social, and emotional assessments related to the school setting is necessary. The counselor will work directly with students to support their education goals and contribute to ensuring student academic and personal success. The Counselor participates in various school meetings, communicates with parents and agency personnel, and assists staff with various issues related to school counseling. The Counselor works extensively with the Principal, other Counselors, Coaches, and instructional staff.

REPORTS TO: School Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Middle School Counselor will be responsible for the following areas and duties:

Create and maintain a welcoming school counseling office

Develops and maintains a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling services in concert with the other school counselor

Implement developmentally appropriate and prevention/proactive activities to achieve the goals and objectives of the MRSD Comprehensive School Counseling Plan and/or building needs and initiatives

Assist students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career, and social/emotional goals and plans

Conduct regular public awareness initiatives that highlight school counseling program activities, services, and accomplishments with the goal of promoting student, staff, and community participation

Assist families with finding mental health centers/clinics/therapists outside the school setting

Collaborate with parents, teachers, and the Crisis Team to meet the needs of students.

Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning.

Provide up-to-date career and vocational information and resources to students and parents based on individual aptitude, achievement, and interest

Evaluate, interpret, and utilize standardized test scores and other student data for parents, students, and teachers to support individual student achievement in a 21st-century learning environment

Adheres to the laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school counseling profession and Mascenic Regional School District including 504 process/procedure

Conducts an annual review of the school counseling program using data to evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented counseling program and shares the data as appropriate

Participate in professional growth activities and complete a professional development plan that includes professional conferences and workshops related to best practices in the field of school counseling and a comprehensive school counseling program.

Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the building principal.
