Job Summary

Responsible for using equipment for the assembly and processing tasks to produce finished products according to established specifications. Accountable for adhering to all quality and safety guidelines.

Responsible for performing manufacturing procedures and executing diverse tasks in various processing areas such as biology, microbiology, biotechnology, medical technology, or biochemistry. Follows regulatory requirements as well as policies and procedures of the business.

The Extruder Operation is responsible for the production of absorbable and non-absorbable future fibers and films in accordance with process specifications and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

Under general direction and in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

  • Operates production equipment to produce subassemblies or finished products.
  • Interprets instructions and specifications and uses to set up equipment.
  • Checks products on assembly line to confirm that they are properly assembled and removes defective products.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment as needed.
  • Notifies supervisor of maintenance and/or repairs needed on equipment.
  • Prepares accurate records/documentation related to quality and work in progress. Troubleshoots minor production problems.
  • Sets up production equipment to produce subassemblies or finished products.
  • Ensures production equipment is properly set up.
  • Checks products on assembly line to confirm that they are properly assembled and remove defective products.
  • Compiles records and reports on quality inspection results.
  • Cleans, maintains and performs basic repairs on equipment as needed.
  • Schedules maintenance and/or repairs on equipment as directed.
  • Prepares accurate records/documentation related to quality, work in progress, test results, and special projects.
  • Troubleshoots production problems. Reports and documents unresolved production problems.
  • Executes and monitors manufacturing processes according to operational procedures.
  • Establishes priorities based on production schedule.
  • Participates in cleaning equipment and clean rooms as necessary.
  • Takes readings of equipment and systems.
  • Verifies and interprets parameters to ensure compliance.
  • Takes samples and performs tests during process according to standard procedures.
  • Participates in projects focused on process development and/or improvement, cost controls and new product manufacturing.
  • Performs equipment maintenance, conditioning, standardization, and calibration as needed.
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues.
  • Handles, stores, and disposes of hazardous and nonhazardous materials incompliance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Handles chemicals appropriately using required safety equipment.
  • Participates in the execution of validation/revalidation protocols.


Essential Functions

  • Operate atleast one extrusion process.
  • Perform testing per specification requirements.
  • Prepare record, close out, review, and maintain Device History Records using Good Documentation Practices.
  • Must constantly monitor extrusion lines & perform corrective action.
  • Perform calibration check son instrumentation used in the department, especially Instron's, TMI, Federal Gauge, Lasermike, and Mititoyo.
  • Use the DMACS, Honeywell and Eurotherm Extrusion control systems.
  • Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Performs other duties assigned as needed

  • Work in a team environment behaving in a CREDO based respectful manner.

  • Comply with all job specific safety procedures and utilize PPE when necessary.
  • Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures and instructions.
  • Use test equipment (Starett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope, etc.) where applicable.
  • Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g., ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV, etc.)
  • Consistently meet required work performance targets (RE's), if applicable
  • Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives.
  • Support Maintenance Excellence (ME2) including 6S and Operator Asset Care.
  • Accurately complete records as defined within the job procedures(e.g., manual and/or electronic documentation). Perform other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Consistently meet required Training due date targets.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and practices in the department.
  • Verify and maintain raw materials and supplies including polymer, spools, labels, bags, and office supplies.
  • Cover for other operators during breaks, absences, leaves, vacations, etc.
  • Package, transfer, and store resins in cans, port-a-vacs and hoppers.
  • Perform physical inventory as requested.
  • Perform SPC charting and troubleshooting.
  • Perform documentation, testing, and doffing.
  • Perform line clearance and maintain segregation of product and lots.
  • Demonstrate teamwork in identifying, evaluating, and resolving problems within the department
  • Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.
  • For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all Company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable
  • Responsible for ensuring personal and Company compliance with all Federal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties assigned as needed.


Qualifications

  • Generally, Requires 2-4 Years Work Experience.
  • High school education, G.E.D. or equivalent, experience, or training
  • Computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relation skills.
  • Statistical and analytical problem- s o l v i n g ability.
  • Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, percentages.
  • Strong background in math or science, S P C skills, a n d /or post high school is desirable.
  • Ability to use measuring devices such as micrometers, scales and balances, calculators, tachometers, computer, and nstron test units.'
  • Knowledge of extrusion or molding operations desirable.
  • Ability to work independently without continues supervision
  • Ability to use basic hand tools.
  • General inspection skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Capable of innovative thinking to resolve problems and recommend corrective actions
