Job Description Summary
Job Summary/Purpose:
• Ultrasound Technologists provide exams in the field of ultrasonography to include general US, small parts, breast, and vascular to the specifications of the ordering provider and radiologist’s needs.
• Candidate will be knowledgeable in anatomical positioning and physiology and must be able to perform high quality ultrasound examination for interpretation by a provider.
• Performs examinations in all areas of the ultrasound department that he/she is certified and/or trained to perform.
• May be required to travel between MUSC Physicians outreach sites located in Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, and West Ashley.

Job Responsibilities:
PERFORM RADIOLOGIC EXAMINATIONS TIMLEY, ACCURATELY AND SAFELY FOR RADIOLOGIST INTERPRETATION
• Timely- Assure the schedule does not fall behind; exam delays are communicated to all stakeholders. Exams are routed to PACS for interpretation as soon as complete.
• Accurately- per exam protocol using appropriate anatomical markers and positioning aids. Images are free of artifacts and motion. Assure exams are read promptly and all logs are completed.
• Safely- All patients are screened for patient and technologist identification, patient history, and safety protocols. Medial history was reviewed for exam indications and contraindications.
ASSURE THE RADIOLOGY SUITE AND ADJACENT CLINICAL AND COMMON AREAS ARE PREPARED TO RECEIVE PATIENTS/VISITORS.
• Equipment- ensure all needed equipment is available and in working order, perform quality control per ACR and manufacturer - report ASAP any equipment errors or downtime directly to the service vendor and manager, as well as clinical staff.
• Suite/Clinical and common areas- ensure all needed medical supplies are ordered and stowed, assure exam room and patient areas are clean and equipment is cleaned per manufacturer, OSHA, DHEC, and MUSC infection control guidelines. Report any environmental issues timely to the manager.

System Improvement- consistently looks for ways to improve safety by analyzing workflows, and work areas and identifying barriers.

- Graduate of an approved Diagnostic Ultrasonography program.
Preferred Requirements:
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- 1 year experience.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:
- Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMA), or registry eligible.
- Registered by ARDMS within 12 months of hire.
- BLS certification.

- Ability to evaluate and appropriately respond to verbal and non-verbal communication from patients’ diverse stages of development.
- Completes procedures following approved procedure protocols with sufficient speed to promote departmental efficiency.
- Completes required documentation for each procedure, both computer and handwritten.
- Demonstrates technical competence in the operation of imaging equipment, and the use of procedure-related supplies. Complete knowledge of related physics, anatomy, imaging techniques, and medical terminology.
- Introduces self to patients, explains the procedure, assists the patient at the end of the procedure, and explains the next steps.
- Maintain a professional demeanor in attitude, appearance, and communication.
- Obtains pertinent history verifies orders and communicates effectively with co-workers and other clinic staff to provide excellent patient care.
