Summary:
The Network Engineer demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Working under the supervision of the Manager of Information Technology, analyzes, defines, procures, manages and implements all components of networking hardware including switches, routers, and associated internal blades or appliances (ASA/SourceFire, Cisco Wireless Controllers etc.). Analyzes, defines, procures, manages and implements network electronics software, including network configuration and management, electronics firmware, and BootP or flash images. Establishes documents and monitors policies regarding TCP/IP addressing, network security, electronics/cabling and redundancy. Manages and/or performs the installation and upgrades of network electronics firmware. Troubleshoots wired and wireless issues using packet analysis or "sniffer" software/hardware solutions.

Analyzes, defines, procures, manages and implements network hardware in accordance with network infrastructure design.
Utilizes knowledge of various networking topologies and protocols, including Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, GigE, BGP, EIGRP, LWAPP, WPA2, etc. Installs, configures and manage network electronic components including switches, routers, and access points (APs).
Coordinates cabling efforts. Maintains network diagram documentation using tools such as Visio Professional.
Analyzes, defines, procures, manages and implements network management software in accordance with network infrastructure design and application requirements. Installs and utilizes network management software to configure devices and deploy policies. Utilizes knowledge of Windows Server 2000/2003/2008, XP/Vista/Windows 7, AIX and TCP/IP to establish and connect network nodes, including servers, routers, APs, workstations and printers, to various segment types on the network backbone.
Analyzes and manages LAN/WAN bandwidth capacity and utilization. Defines and establishes network LAN segments, including switched and/or VLAN segments. Documents baseline traffic patterns to help assess bottlenecks and future growth requirements. Utilizes working knowledge of fiber/category 5 cable plant infrastructure.
Investigate and analyze network problems associated with network electronics (switches, routers, wireless infrastructure), cabling plant, servers and client workstations
Utilize network management and packet analysis software and hardware to isolate and correct problems with various network components.
Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.



Other information:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelors Degree in Computer science or 5 years experience. Consideration given to candidate willing to commit to degree in set timeframe. CCNA, CCNP preferred.
Minimum of three years in LAN/WAN network implementation and management.
Experience with Cisco products.
Demonstrated router and switch configuration/management experience.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Demonstrates a practical level of experience implementing and administrating common TCP/IP-based services, including STP, EIGRP, GGP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP, HTTPs, FTP, SSH, SMTP, BGP, EIGRP, LWAPP, LEAP, VOIP, and WEP. Strong knowledge and skills using Cisco switches, routers, firewall appliances and blades. Demonstrated working knowledge of Fiber/Category 5 network cabling plant infrastructure.
Advanced analytical skills necessary to resolve complex technical problems related to the Information Technology.
Interpersonal skills necessary to regularly interact with all levels of Hospital personnel and representatives of outside agencies.
Must possess the ability to communicate both in verbal and written form to facilitate problem solving, procedure documentation and training.
Ability to plan, communicate and implement projects necessary to support growing, highly-available application environments.
The ability to protect the confidential nature of the information within the IS department.
