Position Summary:

As a key member of the DPSCD Technology Division's Technology Infrastructure Department, the Network Engineer - Team Lead serves as the technical expert responsible for leading Network Engineers and Technicians in the installation, assessment, and maintenance of networking equipment and infrastructure across the district. This role involves being the technical expert of the team, providing essential consultation and guidance, and developing comprehensive technical documentation to support district-wide initiatives and projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or relevant experience

Certifications
  • CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE equivalent

Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in networking engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role or leading teams of five (5) or more.
  • Proven expertise in managing large-scale network installations and maintenance projects.
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DHCP), routing and switching technologies, and firewall management.
  • Experience with wireless technology deployment and management in complex environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience with Cisco Wireless Deployments, Cisco ISE, Cisco Data Center Switching, Security methodology, Load Balancing, and network monitoring tools.¿
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools (e.g. Cisco Prime Infrastructure, SolarWinds, SNMP network tools).¿
  • Experience in the development of network performance metrics and reporting dashboards.¿
  • Ability to provide on-call support twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.¿
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with all stakeholders
  • Must have own transportation for travel to various District locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 25-50lbs without assistance.

Essential Functions
  • Lead and manage network installation and upgrade projects including new construction across the district.
  • Serves as technical expert for implementation projects, including timely coordination of project management tasks such as selection, recommendation, design, testing, and implementation of various solutions.
  • Performs site assessments for new construction and/or relocations within the district to ensure proper network solutions are purchased and installed timely.
  • Coordinates with departments and schools for network access for special events, including firewall configuration, setup, and tear down.
  • Assists with secure network design, including establishing and implementing system standards, and maintaining accurate technical documentation and equipment inventory.
  • Assess and optimize the performance of existing network infrastructure, including troubleshooting and reporting network issues and outages to NOC/SOC and senior leadership.
  • Organize regular team meetings to discuss progress, issues, and updates.
  • Direct onboarding and professional development programs for the network team to enhance their expertise and capabilities.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment to ensure efficient operation and professional growth of team members.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for network configurations and operational procedures.
  • Prepare reports on network status, project progress, and incident resolutions for senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership team to align network strategies with the overall technological goals for the district.
  • Provides 3rd level support for WAN (Wide Area Networks), LAN (Local Area Network), Wi-Fi, Internet, Servers, Video and VoIP solutions, including responding to help desk tickets and reported incidents.
  • Conducts network assessment, security audits and after-hours maintenance and installation to keep all systems functioning at optimal performance levels.
  • Assists with technology planning and annual budget activities to ensure optimal health of enterprise investments, including participation in RFP process, vendor relationship management and assessment of acquired solutions.
  • Provide support and ongoing reinforcement of change management philosophies related to changes and advances in innovative business systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
