The Neurology Department at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an outstanding established academic Neuromuscular Neurologist to lead their Neuromuscular Section. The neuromuscular section at UT Southwestern is nationally recognized for clinical care, education and research with outstanding faculty who have a wide range of expertise including notable programs in pediatric neuromuscular disorders, myasthenia gravis, myositis, motor neuron disease and muscular dystrophies. We provide clinical care as well as neurodiagnostics (EMG/NCS, autonomic testing, neuromuscular ultrasound, skin & muscle biopsy). The section provides fellowship training for up to 3 neuromuscular fellows per year and has organized an annual national neuromuscular symposium for the past 44 years. Clinical research is supported by a team of 4 clinical research coordinators and the O'Donnell Brain Institute.

Applicants can expect an opportunity for a well-balanced portfolio of teaching, research, and clinical service with generous support to recruit additional faculty and develop clinical and research programs. Ideally, the neuromuscular section leader will be a recognized expert in a subspecialty neuromuscular area and have a track record of funded clinical or translational research. Candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas. The successful candidate should be board-certified by the ABPN for adult or child neurology and in neuromuscular medicine. Academic rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than full-time schedule.

NM Section Head Expectations
  • Provide high quality, specialized clinical care and set an example of professionalism
  • Recruitment of high-quality clinical faculty
  • Support and mentorship of faculty in the section
  • Supervision of clinical operations, advanced practice providers and staff
  • Goal setting for the section and facilitate communication within the section and between the section and department leadership
  • Leadership and support in developing clinical, education and research programs
  • Advancing a personal impactful research program
