Job Description
TOUR 2 (9AM - 5 PM)
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Patient Escort is responsible to transport patients safely via stretcher or wheelchair to and from the diagnostic areas, patient care areas and areas within the facility where their services are requested, upon admission and /or discharge in an efficient and safe manner.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Patient Escort is responsible to transport patients safely via stretcher or wheelchair to and from the diagnostic areas, patient care areas and areas within the facility where their services are requested, upon admission and /or discharge in an efficient and safe manner.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Delivers lab specimens, paperwork, forms, charts and equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers between designated points within the hospital in a timely manner.
• Utilizes the Healthcare transport process and demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide proper patient care techniques appropriate to the age of the client served and ensure safety.
• Assist with medical safety alerts (i.e. Code Blue, Code Red, Rapid Response, Disasters) as required.
• Obtains patient escort assignment and schedule via EPIC from the ROVER.
• Responds to assignment in a timely and expeditious manner.
• Maintains ROVER in good working condition.
• Always greets patients in a pleasant and respectful manner using required service excellence techniques. Responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
• Always verifies patient's identification before transporting using required 2 patient identifiers.
• Ensure that the patient's property accompanies patient during unit transfers.
• Always transports patient via the appropriate mode of transport (wheelchair or stretcher).
• Always cleans stretcher with disposable disinfectant wipe, places clean sheet on stretcher and wheelchair before receiving patient, and ensures patient is covered while being transported.
• Demonstrates the ability to properly transfer patients, use appropriate body mechanics, and seek assistance as needed.
• Ensure all transportation segments via ROVER are accurately completed.
• Exercise proper precautions to ensure patient safety.
• Transports bodies to the mortuary and assist mortuary personnel in placement of body into the refrigerator.
• Replenishes stretchers and wheelchairs in the Emergency Department and equipment supply room at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
Elementary school graduation or equivalent ability to effectively communicate with patients; Ability to keep simple clinical records.
Department Preferences
A valid and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
