Nurse Director of Resident Care - UPMC Cumberland Crossing Manor

Purpose: The Nurse Director of Resident Care will be responsible for developing nursing service objectives, setting performance standards for nursing staff, and establishing comprehensive nursing policies and procedures. This role is accountable for the effective organization, implementation, and continuous improvement of approved policies and procedures, ensuring the highest standard of resident care.

Key Responsibilities:
    • Staff Supervision & Development:
      • Periodically work on the floor to monitor nursing staff performance and maintain personal nursing skills.
      • Conduct interviews, select nursing staff, and recommend staffing levels to the Administrator.
      • Lead staff meetings across all shifts to plan, coordinate, and implement nursing service policies and procedures.
      • Develop, organize, and implement nursing service objectives, performance standards, and policies.
      • Conduct orientation for new nursing personnel, ensuring they are trained in proper procedures.
      • Plan and coordinate in-service educational programs to meet regulatory requirements.
    • Resident Care & Family Communication:
      • Listen to resident and family concerns, ensuring thorough follow-through.
      • Conduct pre-admission screenings, assessments, and evaluations for incoming residents.
      • Ensure residents and appropriate family members are informed of significant changes in resident conditions and treatment plans.
      • Consistently collaborate with residents, staff, physicians, families, consultants, and ancillary service providers.
      • Ensure compliance with Resident's Rights policies at all times.
    • Operational Oversight:
      • Direct the allocation of nursing service equipment and supplies within the facility.
      • Establish guidelines for the efficient and economical use of supplies and equipment.
      • Assess equipment and supply needs, making recommendations to the Administrator.
      • Ensure the availability of necessary equipment for nursing personnel.
      • Responsible for scheduling nursing services to ensure adequate coverage for residents.
    • Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance:
      • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations within your area of control.
      • Accountable for the development, organization, and implementation of approved policies and procedures.
      • Monitor department activities, evaluate staff performance, and provide feedback to maintain a positive work environment.
      • Ensure that universal precautions, infection control, and sanitation practices are strictly followed.
      • Direct, monitor, and control nursing activities related to direct patient care.


Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Licensure & Experience:
    • RN License with a minimum of 2 years of experience in long-term care OR
    • LPN License with a minimum of 3 years of experience in long-term care required.
  • Certification: Employee must obtain an Administrator Certificate within 1 year of hire if not already certified at the time of hire

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) OR First Aid Certification
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
