Job Description

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates orientation of new staff, educational programs and activities for all case management staff; maintains a system of records of in-service orientation, staff development and educational activities; and monitors and submits all other mandatory work and regulatory reports.
  • Assesses learner's progress, and interprets appropriate information necessary to revise and/or adjust orientation program, lesson plans, education activities and teachings as needed.
  • Contributes to competency assessment by monitoring nursing staffs' knowledge of compliance, to ensure that national Patient Safety Goals are maintained, and by participating in competency validation of newly appointed staff; maintains professional competence through participating gin continuing education programs, activities and other appropriate learning opportunities.
  • Executes timely orientation evaluation process and submission to Human Resources.
  • Collaborates with service ADNs/DON on staff educational plans and coordination.
  • Identifies and collects information related to learning needs and collaborates with members of multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation for effective education and training programs serves as a resource for all nursing educational inquiries and issues.
  • Conducts program evaluations that measure learning impact and outcomes against strategic goals and objectives to enhance the effectiveness of clinical care and employee performance.
  • Develops teaching and learning strategies and methodologies to promote participant engagement.
  • Ensures staff compliance with mandatory assigned learning modules and annual competencies.
  • Ensures that mandates and minimum employment requirements for staff are current and maintained at all times (ex. BLS Certification).
  • Responsible to coordinate and all staff monthly meeting with relevant agenda items, educational updates, meeting minutes and additional reference resources.
  • Maintain departmental orientation manual up to date; maintain education resources on the shared drive.
  • Serves on nursing and case management committees as directed.
  • Participates in leading Case Management departmental trainings, meetings, presentations, quality improvement initiatives.
  • Completes other duties as directed.


Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and
3. A Master's Degree in Nursing, or a related nursing or education field, from an accredited college or university; and
4. Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse in specialty area(s), including:
a. One (1) year providing nursing education and training in specialty area(s); or
b. Holds a valid and current certification as a Nurse Educator.

For Assignment to Nurse Educator Level II
1. In addition to meeting the qualification requirements of Nurse Educator Level I, must be assigned to a highly specialized area (e.g., critical care, emergency services, perioperative care) or to a group of specialty areas.
