Tour: 7:30am - 16:00pm

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

TO PROVIDE CLINICAL SUPPORT TO THE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinates nursing educational programs and activities for Behavioral Health; provides continuous education and training to nursing staff; and assesses educational needs of staff.
• Participates in planning and conducting nursing staff development programs.
• Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates in-service nursing orientation; maintains a system of records of in-service orientation, staff development, and educational activities; and monitors and submits all other mandatory work and regulatory reports.
• Identifies and collects information related to learning needs and collaborates with members of multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of effective nursing education and training programs; serves as a resource for all nursing educational inquiries and issues.
• Conducts program evaluations that measure learning impact and outcomes against strategic goals and objectives of the heath care setting to enhance the effectiveness of clinical care and employee performance.
• Assesses learners' progress and interprets appropriate information necessary to revise and/or adjust orientation, competencies, lesson plans, educational activities and teaching techniques, as needed.
• Contributes to competency assessment by monitoring nursing staff's knowledge and compliance, to ensure that national Patient Safety Goals are maintained, and by participating in competency validation of newly appointed staff; maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education programs, activities, and other appropriate learning opportunities.
• Serves on nursing and health care setting committees, as assigned, and develops and directs continuous quality improvement programs which achieve targeted patient quality of care outcomes.
• Instructs and provides in-service education for new products, equipment, and changes or updates to nursing departmental orientation procedures.
• Identifies and implements nursing evidence-based methodologies and/or best practices; develops programs based on the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards.
• Develops teaching and learning strategies and methodologies to promote participant engagement.
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and
3. A Master's Degree in Nursing, or a related nursing or education field, from an accredited college or university; and
4. Three (3) years of experience as a registered nurse in specialty area(s), including:
a. One (1) year providing nursing education and training in specialty area(s); or
b. Holds a valid and current certification as a Nurse Educator.
