Position Summary
Provides primary or acute healthcare services for certain acute or chronic health conditions in specific populations in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
Under the general supervision of the medical care provider, and the direct supervision of the Manager, MedAccess Urgent Care, and according to established policies and procedures, coordinates total healthcare plan for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient/family advocate, and works with other providers and ancillary personnel to maintain standards for a professional practice. Work is of a very confidential nature. Performs other duties of the department as required.
Reports to: Department Manager
Responsibilities of the Position
Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination.
Documents patient care performed, assessments made, and orders given.
Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies.
Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care.
Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions, including use of prescriptive authority and referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health and wellness, treatment options, and community resources.
Provides care in the context of promoting age and cultural appropriate informed choices, shared decision making, and the right to self-determination.
Qualifications
Required Education
Master's degree is required.
Graduate of a Program in Discipline is required.
Graduation from an education program for Mid-Level Providers approved by the NC State Board of Medical Examiners and/or NC Board of Nursing.
Licenses/Certifications
An active and valid Registered Nurse Practitioner License is required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire.
Required Skills
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
The employee must have the ability to understand, communicate and react effectively to the unique needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
