General Summary of Position


In support of MedStar Health and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Nursing Academic-Practice Partnerships, the Program Manager partners with the Entity CNO, Director of Nursing Professional Development, and System Academic Practice Partnership leaders to provide strategic, operational, and tactical oversight for education affiliation agreements, clinical placements, strategic partnership initiatives and subsequent programs that fall under nursing academic-practice partnerships. The Program Coordinator acts as a liaison between professional nursing programs, allied health and technical programs, MedStar Georgetown nurse leaders, and the Talent Acquisitions Team. The Program Coordinator also collaborates with MGUH nursing leaders to identify areas of academic-practice opportunities and workforce pipelines to drive and/or support initiatives that leverage growing the nursing workforce. They will also contribute to the collection, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of clinical student placement data to include conversions to full-time hires upon academic course completion.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities


  • Contributes to the achievement of established MGUH and nursing academic-practice partnership goals and objectives. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Partners with the MGUH CNO and Director of Nursing Professional Development to serve as a liaison between MGUH Nursing and professional and technical nursing educational institutions. Establishes and sustains collaborative relationships between practice and academia with targeted regional and national nursing programs, based on priorities established by MGUH Nursing Leadership and MedStar Health System's Nursing leaders.
  • Collaborates with MGUH nurse leaders as the clinical placement manager on the planning, coordination, and execution of capacity assessment for the clinical placement of professional and technical nursing students in the MGUH learning environment, orientation and placement of students, orientation of clinical faculty, and monitoring of unit/faculty/students relations. Creates innovative strategies for clinical groups, practicum students, preceptors, and clinical instructors to enhance student placements within the academic-practice partnerships program.
  • Supports the MGUH CNO and Director of Nursing Professional Development to develop mechanisms and standardized methods/tools for the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of data related to the professional and technical clinical student placements, academic-practice partnerships, and education affiliation agreements.
  • Manages the clinical nursing/technical student placement activities and logistics of all education affiliation agreements, supporting the nursing-academic relationships, technical school affiliation and the student nurse extern/technician and student nurse attendant programs.
  • Utilizes an automated process and data management solutions to support and optimize outcomes measurements, such as placement volumes and conversion rates from students to full-time hires, among other metrics.
  • Participates in committees, task forces, and projects at the request of the MGUH CNO and Director of Nursing Professional Development. Promotes a public image of nursing excellence through professional communication and membership in professional organizations.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills at all levels of the organization, political acumen to handle controversial issues and dissent appropriately, and to identify appropriate audiences for certain topics; disciplined thought with respect to identifying, communicating, and resolving issues.
  • Builds trusting collaborative relationships with various members of the health care environment, including relationships that facilitate the ability of professional and technical nursing students and faculty to collaborate with members of the MedStar Health Care Team. Fosters service by contributing professionally to MGUH and MedStar Health, contracted university/school, professional organizations, and/or the community in a participatory, developmental, or advisory capacity.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the fields of nursing, clinical instruction, and nursing education through a variety of professional activities including, but not limited to, reading the appropriate literature and attending related seminars and conferences.
  • Contributes to the professional development and advancement of MGUH nurses and nursing students. Demonstrates commitment to continuous learning and professional advancement.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required and
    • Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred

    Experience
    • 3-4 years 4 years of progressively more responsible roles in Nursing required

    Licenses and Certifications
    • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the State of Maryland or District of Columbia Upon Hire required and
    • Nursing certification from a nationally recognized nursing organization Upon Hire preferred

    • Advanced problem-solving skills and ability to exercise independent judgment. Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, internal departments, and external partners. Working knowledge of various computer software applications. Ability to prioritize, manage and implement complex projects with strong analytical ability. Exceptional customer centric skills needed to successfully manage internal and external stakeholder relationships. Ability to prioritize activities relative to goals and time frames, managing multiple levels of deliverables. Ability to communicate goals and priorities within a complex healthcare environment and to work effectively with a variety of leaders and multidisciplinary teams.
