NURSING SUPERVISOR-TEAM LEAD - Full Time -40 Hours per Week (7 days on 7 days off) *call to learn about this great opportunity

The primary purpose of your job is to maintain the high standard of patient care and optimal functioning on all nursing units at Martha's Vineyard Hospital by directing, supervising, developing and coordinating assigned personnel and their activities. To promote safe, prompt and efficient care and service to patients in accordance with approved administrative and departmental policies and procedures.

Administrative responsibilities

• Directly accountable to the Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department.

• Acts as a liaison between administration and patients, nursing staff, medical staff and various other hospital departments, facilitating interdepartmental communication and interpreting hospital and departmental policie

• Coordinates evacuations, internal and external disaster operations, reallocating personnel as necessary

• Reviews and evaluates patient and employee occurrence screens (planning appropriate corrective action within limits of established policy and practice); reports and documents to Chief Nurse Executive any unusual situation

• Gives verbal report to oncoming supervisor, conveying pertinent information regarding staffing levels, patient care needs and unusual problems. Summarizes shift activity in written format on report sheet. Completes shift report of hours and activity

• Accountability: Patient care responsibilitie

• Will make rounds on all nursing units to discuss problems or special activities with each unit's respective charge nurse to insure the smooth functioning of that particular area, suggesting work techniques in unusual or complex nursing problems. Oversees admissions, discharges and transfers of patients as warranted

• Acts as a patient advocate, investigating causes of complaints and taking corrective action within limits of policy

• Acts as a care provider in clinical situations, as warranted

Staffing responsibilities

• Assesses and coordinates staffing needs, necessitating use of float personnel, per diem or overtime, to provide adequate coverage of all nursing units based on nurse's experience

• Documents in daily staffing sheets all appropriate information (i.e. charge pay, call time, over time, sick time, holiday, and vacation time)

• Documents in Master Time Book all appropriate information (i.e.: charge pay, call time, overtime, sick time, holiday and vacation time)

• Maintains discipline and good personnel relationships; handles complaints and documents matters related to discipline or grievance

• Assists Nurse Manager in supporting conduct and appearance of personnel in conforming to hospital policie

Other

• Serves on various ad hoc committees designed to develop or improve nursing practice as required

• Works independently on regular and/or assigned project

• Arranges for supplies and equipment as needed when other departments are not staffed

• Performs other related duties as required and Supervisor Staff Scheduling

• Uses and shares skills gained at continuing education classe

• Attends Mandatory staff meetings unless excused by the Chief Nurse Executive.

• Has completed annual policy and procedure review

• Has attended Mandatory safety fair and nursing competency review.

• Accountability: Age-specific competency

• Evaluates for age-appropriate behavior motor skills and physiological norms for patient

• Recognizes patient's psychological development and modifies approaches for patient

• Identifies increase in physical/emotional dependency needs and evaluates availability of support system for patient

• Interview/communicates techniques are age appropriate

• Assesses patients for signs and symptoms of abuse/neglect and refers to appropriate personnel and/or community agency

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing

• Currently licensed as a registered nurse in Massachusett

• Bachelor degree in Nursing or equivalent preferred

• BCLS

• ACLS

• PALS

EXPERIENCE

• Three to five years clinical nursing experience required

• Previous experience in leadership role preferred

• Some Critical Care experience preferred
