Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is currently recruiting for two (2) Nursing Unit Managers.

MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, specializing in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. Position Summary

As the Nursing Unit Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management of the unit. This includes:
  • supervising, counseling, evaluating, and teaching nursing staff assigned to the unit
  • training and consulting
  • participating in developing/establishing policies and procedures to provide unit direction and operational guidelines ensuring congruence with Nursing, Clinical, and Security policies and procedures

Salary Information

The starting salary is between $51.71 and $61.79 per hour (approximately between $107,500 and $128,500 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 50/11.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility within 30 days of the start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin. Eligible is defined as your license is currently in progress with the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services , or you currently hold a license in another state and are eligible to obtain a license in the State of Wisconsin. You must obtain licensure in Wisconsin by the time of appointment.
  • Experience serving in a supervisory or leadership role to nursing staff (e.g., providing guidance, training, evaluating performance, etc.).
  • Experience working in a healthcare setting (e.g. hospital, nursing home, etc.) or a secured facility (e.g. prison, mental health institution, etc.).
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience providing nursing services to psychiatric patients.
  • Experience working with youth that have mental health or behavioral issues.
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team.
