Pay: $19.47 / hour

The Nutrition Services Food Service Assistant is responsible for performing general customer service role as well assisting in the preparation of school meals.

What you will do
  • Prepare nutritious, high quality meals for PPS students.
  • Providing excellent customer service.
  • Cashiering and handling cash transactions with student customers.
  • Ability to handle food in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintaining a sanitary environment at all times.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
What you bring
  • You’re able to work quickly and efficiently following verbal and written instructions
  • You’re able to lift up to 50 lbs.; push or pull 70-100 lbs.; use a full range of motion at standard height work stations; able to work in uniform
  • You’re able to receive directions in English over the phone and at the work site.
  • You’re able to work with money and make changes while serving.
  • You’ll maintain a current Multnomah County Food Handler's Certification (not required at time of hire but needed in order to begin work).
  • You have basic computer skills and the ability to work with a computerized cash register.
  • You’re willing to travel to all schools throughout the district
Preferably:
  • You enjoy cooking and working with kids and students in grades Pre K to 12th grade.
  • You have experience working with children, school staff, and Nutrition Services employees
  • You have experience cooking in a commercial kitchen

What we offer
  • Pay : $19.47/per hour
    • Employees are paid on a monthly basis, on the last business day of each month
    • The pay periods begin on the 16th and ends on the 15th of the following month
  • Schedule: August to June (170 days per year) when school is in session for students following the district calendar .
