General Description
FloodNet is a cooperative of communities, researchers, and New York City government agencies working to better understand the frequency, severity, and impacts of flooding in New York City.
FloodNet is responsible for manufacturing, installing, operating, and maintaining a citywide flood sensor network of 500 sensors across the five boroughs. A core component of FloodNet is to collect flood data that is open-source and freely available to residents, community members, City agencies, and researchers. FloodNet brings together innovative sources of information on street flooding impacts in neighborhoods that are vulnerable to high tides, storm surge, and stormwater runoff. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a large-scale urban IoT project focussed on a major environmental challenge for NYC.
We are seeking a Field Technician to join our team to work on the installation and ongoing maintenance of our flood sensors. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a large-scale urban IoT project focussed on a major environmental challenge for NYC.

Other Duties
The candidate will suport and work on the following:
- sensor assembly and setup
- installation of the sensors in the field
- implementation of quality control procedures
- maintenance of the installed sensor network
- repair of sensors in the lab
- parts inventory management
- installation report writing
Field installations and maintenance work involves the use of handheld power tools and ladder work of heights up to 5 feet.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma and prior experience in technical fieldwork. A Technical Certificate or Bachelor's Degree is desirable.
- A valid driver's license in good standing.
- Experience working with hand tools and power tools such as drills and saws.
- Basic knowledge of electronic circuits. Experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment desirable.
- Good verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating and working in a team environment.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently whenever necessary.
- Ability to produce clear and concise work reports and documentation.
