Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Occupational Therapy Assistant who will implement activity programs designed to promote and maintain health, reinforce, restore, and enhance task performance; conduct up to 18 hours in psychosocial rehabilitation program interventions and assessments according to approved schedule; assist in design, modifications, and implementation of programs and procedures and assist in the evaluation of services provided, specifically the living skills program; complete modified PSR outcome documentation as indicated; and complete transfer/annual assessments as needed on assigned PCU.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will also be responsible for attending required in-services, department meetings, and meetings to review student/patient progress; submits records, as needed, of funds spent for daily living skills; conduct one modified satisfaction survey of consumers per intervention served in PSR program quarterly; serves as PSR Liaison for Unit; and provide assigned affiliating occupational therapy students with schedules, assignments, and supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

- graduation from an accredited occupational therapy assistant program
- experience in patient care
- licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as an occupational therapy assistant
- knowledge of the principles and practices of occupational therapy
- skill in engaging patients in therapeutic methods
- ability to work with a variety of disabilities and reports patients' status, both orally and in writing
- ability to complete the following: repetitious walking, sitting, and/or standing as part of routine work; visual acuity to observe and report changes in patients' behaviors on a continuous basis; bending, lifting, and reaching overhead to position, restrain, transfer, transport, or escort patients and to assist patients to perform activities
