Job Duties
The Blue Ridge Health District is currently seeking an Office Services Specialist (OSS) to join our team dedicated to protecting and promoting public health! The Blue Ridge Health District is comprised of the City of Charlottesville, the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson. This position will be based at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department and will support our clinical services area. May require routine travel to other locations within the district.
Utilizing established policies and procedures, provides program and office support to a work unit including general office and office administrative support. Characteristic duties include: routine office and administrative responsibilities, scheduling meetings, takes and transcribes meeting minutes, prepares correspondences, maintains records, orders supplies, and answers questions regarding program services offered. The incumbent typically serves as the first point of contact for a program or work unit and directs inquiries to the appropriate office, division or resource, explains established procedures and practices. May be responsible for maintaining timesheets and entering time/leave taken into timekeeping/payroll system for assigned program area.
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) offers 12 paid holidays, medical, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement plans (including 401a Cash Match and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan) as well as sick, family/personal, and annual leave.

- Knowledge of office principles and practices
- Working knowledge of work processing and spreadsheet software applications
- Ability to interpret and follow established procedures and guidelines
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, verbally and in writing.
- Considerable skill in the operation of standard office equipment
- Experience in office setting specific to program area; experience working in a clinical setting to include registration & determine eligibility; verify insurances, and schedule appointments.
- Experience in preparing and processing deposits; experience in collecting payments, reconcile cash and receipts
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working with the public.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English.
