Job Description :

This position is in the Engineering Test Lab for a contract labor technician who will support test articles with both setup assembly and machine shop fabrication.
Under guidance the candidate will perform layout, fabrication and assembly operations of certification and engineering development test articles, as well as associated test rigs and fixtures.

Additionally this position supports activity including the fabrication and assembly of mounting provisions, fabrication of shop aids and jig assembly to enable testing of products or engineering representations.

Must be able to follow production planning, read and interpret engineering drawings, installation layouts, and sketches.

Must be able to use precision instruments as well as standard shop measuring devices such as scales, calipers, micrometers, feeler gages, and depth/height gages. Knowledge of machining, drilling, grinding, mechanical assembly and general fabrication practices is required.

Preferred to be very familiar with pneumatic hand tools such as drill motors, rivet guns, and angle grinders, etc.

Must apply current skills to perform assigned tasks with a willingness to learn new skills, take direction from master technicians for new methods and innovative with team when required.
Machinist who can operate with minimal guidance.

Has the ability to plan and sequence progressive operations for layout and setting up of various types of conventional, numerically controlled and honing machines including all drill presses, jig bores, boring mills, grinders, lathes, duplicating, profiling and milling machines to load, order, issue, grind and sharpen bits, cutters, reamers, drills and to produce tooling, maintenance, developmental and test modification on production parts.

Requires loading, repairing, ordering, receiving, storing, issuing, dispositioning and assembly of various cutters, materials, tools, attachments and holders for machining operations to fabricate tooling/production parts modification for testing.

It requires the work for setting up and operation of various types of honing machines.
Preferred to be able to set up and operate all machines herein.

To use machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments.

To apply a general knowledge of machine shop practices, procedures, the machineability of metals and plastics, and the use of shop mathematics and trigonometry. Maintain environmental standards and documentation in compliance with regulations and procedural guidelines.

Collaborates with assembly technicians, machinists, and cnc programmers in tool design methodology for simplification, economy and practicality of function.

Required Skill Set :
• Plans the sequence of progressive operations by working from blueprints, sketches, and other authorized documents. Determines sequence of operations to minimize amount of machining, honing and number of set ups required in the set up and operation of various types of machines. Able to confirm with other technicians as required.
• Sets up machines to perform any operation within its capability by positioning, aligning, and securing work, improvising, and adapting existing tooling and other machining aids. Determines operations to be performed, dimensions and tolerances, cutting tools to be used to minimize required machining operations. May perform cutter preset tasks as required.
• Determines, sets, and adjust feeds, speeds, depths, stops, and performs minor oiling as necessary.
• May use pneumatic tools to perform basic surface grinding. Grinds tools, drill bits and special purpose tools.
• Sets up and operates conventional and numerically controlled machines, such as but not limited to drill presses, jig borers, boring mills, grinders, lathes, duplicating, profiling, milling machines, etc. to produce tooling, maintenance, developmental and modified production parts for testing.
• Lays out all lines necessary to ascertain machineability and subsequently all lines required to complete machining of production, tooling, and developmental specifications.
• Installs special bushings, inserts, etc. as required. Performs identification.
• Understanding of safety practices for fabrication. Adheres to all safety practices by corporate entity or government regulation.

May use overhead crane in conjunction with the work described herein
• Maintain good shop practice.

Education Qualification :
Associates Degree

Experience in lieu of education (min 7 years)
