Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional development through ongoing education and engagement in practice-based shared governance, which enhances professional practice and patient care quality.
  • Actively participates in goal setting and supports change processes to improve care and the practice environment, showing flexibility and adaptability.
  • Provides leadership and oversight in the practice environment, guiding clinical and administrative activities while supporting all disciplines in patient care.
  • Formulates and implements holistic, patient-centered care plans, coordinating with physicians and other care team members to address patient needs comprehensively.
  • Serves as a primary nursing resource, managing patient care across visits and facilitating necessary external services and homecare support.
  • Maintains productive relationships with colleagues, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and a balance between work and personal life, while modeling safe work practices.
  • Engages in quality improvement efforts, utilizing research and evidence-based practices to enhance patient care, satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrates advanced critical thinking, communication skills, and clinical judgment, supporting patient advocacy, comprehensive documentation, and effective teaching of patients, families, and staff.


Qualifications:

  • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
  • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients' requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

Required:
  • Minimum 3 years nursing experience

Preferred:
  • BSN
  • 5 years or greater clinical experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state. CPR CertificationUPMC approved national certification preferred.CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
