Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) is one of the largest integrated sports and entertainment companies in the country with one of the most diverse partnership groups in all of sports. MSE owns and operates seven major and minor sports teams: 2018 NHL Stanley Cup Champion Washington Capitals, NBA's Washington Wizards, WNBA's 2019 Championship Washington Mystics, NBA G League's Capital City Go-Go, 2021 & 2020 NBA 2K League Champion Wizards District Gaming and Caps Gaming, an esports sub-brand of the Capitals. Additionally, it holds a significant investment in a seventh professional team, Team Liquid, an endemic esports team owned and operated by aXiomatic, in which MSE is an investor. In September 2022, MSE acquired the regional sports network, then-called NBC Sports Washington and newly rebranded as Monumental Sports Network. Monumental Sports Network now holds the exclusive local television media rights to Capitals', Wizards', and Mystics' games. The network is both a linear channel and a digital operation. Prior to acquiring the linear platform, the digital platform was launched by MSE in 2016, as the first-of-its-kind regional sports network for digital, mobile, and streaming platforms. Those linear and digital platforms are now combined and join Caps Radio, Wizards Radio, MSE Outdoor and Monumental Productions for a full suite of six media enterprises. In addition to Capital One Arena - a venue which hosts 3M+ visitors across over 250 events annually, MSE also manages MedStar Capitals Iceplex (training facility for the Capitals), MedStar Health Performance Center (training facility for the Wizards, Mystics, and Go-Go) and EagleBank Arena (a 12,000+ live event venue on George Mason University's campus). In July 2020, MSE partnered with William Hill (subsequently acquired by Caesars Entertainment) to open the first ever in-arena sportsbook in North America, now called Caesars Sportsbook. MSE opened "District E powered by Ticketmaster" in the spring of 2023, a flagship esports and entertainment venue. This 14,000-square-foot live-event theater offers a 365-day-a-year series of immersive experiences in esports, music, culinary excellence, event programming, and community events. Position Overview: The Operations Captain, Special Police Officer (OC, SPO) will be responsible for overseeing the overall Special Police Officer Operation within MSE Security. This role involves planning, supervising personnel, managing resources, and ensuring effective security services within the department. This key role is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, and direction for a team of 3 Lieutenants and 3 Sergeants and more than 40 Special Police Officers. • Lead, manage, and supervise the SPO division, ensuring all activities align with departmental goals and policies.
• Directly supervise special police officers, sergeants, and lieutenants, providing guidance and support as needed.
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide training, and implement professional development plans.
• Supervise and support the SPO team, ensuring operational standards are met in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist with assessing the security training needs within the department and broader organization. Develop and implement strategies to enhance security training initiatives. Become certified as a training instructor to administer trainings to staff.
• Serve as Security Manager on Duty for assigned events. Address increased security concerns, respond to and resolve alarms, disturbances, and other guest issues in an appropriate manner.
• Assist with providing management and oversight of SPO's. Conduct periodic site visits and post inspections to meet with officers across all shifts and sites to ensure standards are consistently met.
• Assist with mentoring and developing SPO team member performance.
• Assist with the evaluation, development, and implementation of departmental and organizational policies and procedures.
• Conduct regular inspections of protective security equipment, including but not limited to, security barriers, x ray machines, metal detectors, document findings, and submit repair or work requests when deficiencies are noted.
• Possess a thorough knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, including setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Evaluate the best method of research and exercise appropriate judgment in prioritizing and resolving complex matters; consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
• Actively develop positive relationships across all MSE department and organizations; share knowledge with staff for mutual and departmental benefit.
• Communicate ideas effectively, including the preparation of reports; listen and understand directions, information and ideas presented verbally and in writing. Handle a variety of customer service issues with tact and diplomacy in a confidential manner.
• Establish and implement effective administrative programs and procedures. Plan and coordinate daily work routine. Prioritize for the completion of work aligning with sound time-management methodology. Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates degree or equivalent experience. 7+ years of security, law enforcement, or military experience may be substituted for education.
• Experience serving in a supervisor position for a minimum of 12-months prior to the date of consideration for promotion.
• Ability to acquire and maintain an active DC Special Police Officer License issued by Metropolitan Police Department, Security Office Management Branch within 14 days of hire.
• Ability to complete an 80-hour SPO training course.
• Experience with physical security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control).
• Must maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
• Able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
• Must have availability to work 40-hours per week and for on-call assignments as needed.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Experience in exercising sound judgment, as well as flexibility to shifting priorities.
• Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to make sound decisions under pressure and in high-stress situations.

Pay Range: $30.75-35 USD/hour. Benefit Eligibility: This role is eligible to participate in health and welfare benefits.
