What You Will Do

The Operations Specialist 2 for the Readiness and Training Division (RT-DO) will be responsible for supporting administration of the LANL Readiness and Conduct of Operations Program offices. The LANL Readiness Program provides an independent process for verifying readiness for startup and restart of Hazard Category 1, 2, or 3 nuclear facilities, activities, and operations. The Conduct of Operations Program provides oversight of the implementation of Conduct of Operations at LANL. The selected candidate will provide overall administrative and support the management of these programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist and supports management in developing and coordinating various administrative functions in conjunction with or in support of operational program compliance, including planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of work activities.
  • Assist in coordinating budgeting, cost tracking, resource planning, and in placing procurements.
  • Assist in coordinating reviews and revisions of procedures, specifications, and forms pertaining to facility operations.
  • Assist in maintaining required operational documentation including, but not limited to, Laboratory best practices, procedural manuals, conduct of operations, readiness reviews, quality control manuals, manufacturing orders, and change authorizations in accordance with government regulations and Laboratory policy.
  • Assist and support management with self-assessments and incident investigations and ensure accurate development and/or processing of any required reports and/or recommendations.
  • Contribute to the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Support and maintains all program documentation.
  • Support management in preparing and submitting DOE required reports.
  • Support management in maintaining program procedures.


What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Operational Expertise: Demonstrated experience with logistics, scheduling, and organization of information. Working knowledge to conceptualize and communicate major elements of operations, processes, and equipment to both technical and non- technical personnel.

Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to assume responsibilities and to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to manage multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines.

Communication: Ability to prepare clear, concise and informative reports, correspondence and other written materials. Experience handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound, independent judgment.

Technology: Demonstrated proficiency with software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

Education/Experience: Position requires an Associate's Degree and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in an operating nuclear facility utilizing formality of operations principles.
  • Proficient with using the LANL Issues Management System iLink and Oracle.
  • Demonstrated success in developing program activities, goals and objectives, creating program evaluation tools, and evaluating the effectiveness of the program.
  • Demonstrated ability to make program improvements and execute changes to meet requirements while supporting mission parameters.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
