Responsibilities :

As a Facility Operations Specialist for VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center, the staff member will be a part of the Massey Facility Operations Team that underpins the mission of Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center by supporting faculty, staff and students residing in our laboratory and administrative spaces. The Operations Specialist manages some administrative functions supporting the service mission Massey Facility Operations and oversees front-line operations, assisting in the day-to-day general maintenance actions, facility request tickets, loading dock receiving, facility access requests, room reservations and laboratory services support.

The Operations Specialist provides support to the Director of Facility Operations with initiating and completing of operation projects, automating service requests and wet lab research onboarding.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with building services operations, including engaging VCU FMD technicians and sub-contractors.
  • Provide safety support and follow basic laboratory safety guidelines.
  • Able to respond independently and efficiently to resolve problems associated with general maintenance, laboratory equipment issues and communicate actions to stakeholder.
  • Review service and work requests and determines in-house assignments or procurement of sub-contracted services. Perform initial diagnosis and make determination of best repair method.
  • Prioritize service and work requests within the responsibilities of the position.
  • Order general supplies and equipment required to support daily laboratory and administrative functions.
  • Interfaces with VCU RealSource and Massey Purchasing Team.
  • Perform QA on general maintenance work and shared laboratory equipment.
  • Manage inventory of general maintenance supplies, spare parts, and equipment.
  • Safely operates Massey passenger vehicles and oversized outreach vans.
  • Provides logistical support for programs and events.
  • Works with program staff in reserving meeting space and supply transportation.
  • Manages the P-Card and is adept at navigating portals to ensure seamless operations.
  • Assists in loading dock management and package receiving.
  • Assists in management of lab gas tank farms and dedicated and standalone cryogenic gas tanks.
  • Must be able to use a hydraulic tank dolly and manipulate large cryogenic gas tanks.
