ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 188 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes, and sports programs for all ages, 24 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty facilities.

The Parks Special Operations Supervisor is responsible for directing and administering multiple functions within the Special Operations Division including, the Forestry, Water Resources, Encanto supply warehouse, and Specialized Maintenance sections, including pool maintenance, and other projects as assigned. This position directs the work of supervisors and foremen responsible for completing service requests, as well as the department's emergency response program, works directly with the various division Park Supervisors on overall park maintenance standards oversight, and State of Arizona Office of Pest Management training and licensing coordination.

This position is also the department liaison with the Geographic Parks, Office of Environmental Programs, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and Risk Management. Duties include conducting research, preparing, and presenting information compiling, and interpreting unit production and cost statistics; preparing preliminary budget estimates; and inspecting, and evaluating the work performed and the effectiveness of the Special Operations sections or programs. The position is responsible for guiding and directing various department wide functions such as the department's annual tree planting goals, regulatory and environmental compliance, partnerships and programs with outside governmental offices.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge of methods and materials to inspect and evaluate the work performed by the Special Operations sections.
  • The ability to lead, and direct specialized maintenance teams to develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff, peers, and supervisors throughout City departments, with key stakeholders, and other outside partner groups.
  • The ability to work with internal and external customers collaboratively, find innovative ways to work more efficiently and seek solutions to problems is critical.

SALARY

Pay Range/: $72,966.40 - $107,806. 40 annually.

Hiring Manager: $72,966.40 - $80,454.40 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in park management, public administration or a related field.
  • Four years of supervisory experience in park maintenance.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.   • Emergency management.
  • Parks operations.
